For viewers who have only recently discovered him through his latest CEO role, the road that led him there may not be immediately obvious.
Before becoming an actor, Liu Qing was a music student who dreamed of becoming a singer.
After giving up that dream, he spent roughly eight to 10 years working as a wedding model. He then went to Beijing hoping to become an actor, only to face repeated rejection and nearly leave the city.
Just when he was ready to give up, My Cat Girlfriend arrived and changed the course of his career.
“I didn’t know how to act at all,” Liu Qing said of his first short drama.
But he stayed with it.
From My Cat Girlfriend to Wild Dog Moonlight, Demon Imperial Concubine, Lucky Strike and The Rounders, Liu Qing gradually built his identity as a short-drama actor while continuing to work on his craft.
Now, his career is no longer limited to short dramas. With Glory, The First Jasmine and Shadows of Desire, he is also taking his next steps into long-form television.
Even so, Liu Qing has no desire to rush the process.
“I don’t want to think about those things too much. I’ll just keep acting for as long as I can. There’s still a long road ahead,” he said.
For an actor who once nearly walked away from Beijing after countless failed auditions, Liu Qing’s journey from wedding model to short-drama star and now long-form television actor is less a story of overnight success than one of gradually finding his place in front of the camera.
