From Wedding Model to Short-Drama Star: Liu Qing’s Journey Before Making the Move to Long-Form TV

Although Liu Qing enjoyed modeling, he gradually became aware of the limitations of the profession.

The modeling market, he noted, tends to favor younger people, while competition can be intense and work is far from consistent.

“The market still has a greater demand for younger models, and the competition is very intense. Sometimes I would be working almost every day for an entire month, while other times I wouldn’t get a single job,” Liu Qing said.

That uncertainty eventually became a major factor in his decision to pursue acting.

He began to see acting as a career that might offer greater long-term prospects.

“It really didn’t give me much of a sense of security. At that time, I didn’t feel very secure in Beijing either,” he said.

Liu Qing also described himself as someone who dislikes sitting around with nothing to do. He prefers to stay busy and feel that he is moving forward.

So when the opportunity to try acting came along, he decided to take the chance.

He Went to Beijing, Only to Face Repeated Rejection

Liu Qing eventually went to Beijing to pursue acting.

When he still had modeling jobs, he would travel whenever work came in. When there was no modeling work, he stayed in Beijing and went from production to production looking for acting opportunities.

But the beginning was anything but easy.

He went to auditions almost every day, only to repeatedly come away without a role.

“I ran into a lot of rejection at first. I auditioned every day, but I still couldn’t get the parts,” Liu Qing recalled.

The repeated failures eventually made him question whether acting was really right for him.

“At that point, I wondered whether I was actually suited to being an actor. I was planning to leave Beijing,” he said.

Then, just as he was preparing to give up, an opportunity came along that changed the direction of his career.

It was a short drama.
