LayarHijau previously reported that Youku China had released four “High-Sweet Version” specials after all 24 regular episodes of The Early Spring had finished airing. At the time, it was unclear whether those four episodes marked the end of the special release or whether Youku would add more.

That question has now been answered, at least for the time being. “High-Sweet Version 05” and “High-Sweet Version 06” are now available on Youku China. Like the first four specials, both new episodes run for nearly an hour and offer around five minutes of free preview footage.
The New Specials Run for Nearly an Hour
“High-Sweet Version 05” has a runtime of approximately 59 minutes and 46 seconds, while “High-Sweet Version 06” runs for around 59 minutes and 57 seconds.
The two new specials therefore follow the same format as the four episodes released earlier. Youku continues to offer roughly five minutes of each episode as a free preview, while full access is reserved for VIP users on the China platform.
The six specials are not new episodes continuing the story after Episode 24. Instead, the “High-Sweet Version” consists of specially edited material drawn from The Early Spring.
With six episodes running close to an hour each, viewers on Youku China now have nearly six additional hours of The Early Spring content following the conclusion of the drama’s 24 main episodes.
Little Information Is Available About Episodes 5 and 6
Despite the release of the two new specials, there is still very little information available about their actual content.
LayarHijau could not find substantial discussion of “High-Sweet Version 05” or “High-Sweet Version 06” on Weibo or Chinese search engines such as Baidu. For now, the clearest confirmation of their release comes from Youku China’s own listing.
That is different from what happened when “High-Sweet Version 01” was first released. The initial special attracted discussion on Weibo and helped viewers discover that Youku was offering additional content after the main series had ended.
There has been no comparable amount of discussion surrounding the fifth and sixth specials so far.
As a result, it is not yet possible to determine exactly which scenes are featured in the two new episodes or whether they contain material that differs from what viewers saw in the original 24 episodes.
It is also unclear whether the latest specials have a particular focus on Luan Nian and Shang Zhitao’s relationship or simply re-edit selected scenes from the drama.
For that reason, there is still not enough evidence to describe the “High-Sweet Version” as exclusively a collection of romantic scenes, rather than a broader compilation of selected moments from the series.
All Six Specials Remain Unavailable on Youku International
The six “High-Sweet Version” episodes are currently available only on Youku China and have not been added to Youku International.
International viewers can still access the 24 main episodes of The Early Spring through the global platform, but “High-Sweet Version 01” through “06” are not listed as additional episodes there.
Youku has also not announced whether the special content will eventually be released internationally.
This means overseas fans who want to watch the full six specials still do not have an official way to access them through Youku’s international platform.
Will There Be a Seventh Special Episode?
The addition of Episodes 5 and 6 also leaves open the question of how many “High-Sweet Version” specials Youku ultimately plans to release.
When the first special episode arrived, Youku did not clearly state how many episodes would be included in the project. Even after four specials became available, there was no confirmation that the release had ended.
Now that two more episodes have been added, it remains unclear whether “High-Sweet Version 06” is the final installment or whether Youku will continue releasing additional specials.
For now, the confirmed update is that Youku China has six “High-Sweet Version” specials for The Early Spring, while the drama’s main storyline remains complete at 24 episodes.
If Youku adds more special content, it would mark another development for fans continuing to follow the series after its regular run has concluded.
