LayarHijau – Chinese actor Hu Yitian is drawing plenty of attention for his kissing scenes with Tian Xiwei in Genius Girlfriend (《天才，女友》). Known for his cool, reserved image, Hu Yitian is showing a noticeably different side in the romance drama, with several of his scenes with Tian Xiwei going viral on Chinese social media.
Some viewers have even called it Hu Yitian’s boldest romantic performance since his debut. His more uninhibited approach to romantic scenes has sparked comments that the actor has finally let loose, especially compared with the restrained image he has maintained throughout much of his career.

In Genius Girlfriend, Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei’s characters do not fall for each other overnight. Their relationship develops gradually, moving from getting to know each other and testing the waters to finally acknowledging their feelings.
Their romance is also filled with moments of hesitation and emotional push-and-pull before the two characters become more certain about what they want. One of the scenes that has attracted the most attention features the pair kissing in the snow.
Their noticeable height difference, combined with the way the scene focuses on their expressions and emotions, helped turn the moment into one of the drama’s most talked-about scenes online. Some Chinese viewers reacted shyly, joking that they were not sure they were supposed to be seeing a scene like that.
Hu Yitian rose to fame with A Love So Beautiful (《致我们单纯的小美好》), where his calm, refined and slightly aloof image became one of his trademarks. His romantic performances have generally been on the more restrained side, making his approach in Genius Girlfriend stand out even more.
This time, his kissing scenes with Tian Xiwei are not simply quick moments of physical intimacy. The performances rely heavily on eye contact, pauses and the distance between the characters to convey their emotions and show how their relationship is changing.
Interestingly, viewers have not focused solely on how bold the scenes are. Some have also noticed a hint of awkwardness in Hu Yitian’s performance and see it as part of what makes the scenes convincing.
Rather than looking like he is deliberately trying to show off his romantic acting skills, Hu Yitian sometimes comes across as someone experiencing a genuine loss of control over his emotions for the first time. That slightly clumsy quality has made the interactions feel more natural and grounded for some viewers.
Despite the buzz surrounding the kissing scenes, however, the attention has not necessarily translated into stronger overall interest in Genius Girlfriend.
During its run, the drama also faced comments suggesting that its social media buzz was much bigger than the actual enthusiasm for the series. In other words, individual scenes featuring Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei generated plenty of discussion online, but that attention did not always turn into sustained interest in the full episodes.
Some viewers have pointed to differences between their expectations and the drama’s character development and storyline as one reason for the mixed response.
The heavy promotional focus on Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei’s romantic chemistry may have also contributed to the situation. Much of the discussion ended up revolving around individual clips and the pairing itself, rather than encouraging viewers to follow the story as a whole.
For now, Hu Yitian and Tian Xiwei’s chemistry remains one of the biggest talking points surrounding Genius Girlfriend. Their kissing scenes have certainly succeeded in going viral, but that online attention has yet to give the entire drama the same level of momentum.
