LayarHijau – Xue Ye, the newest Sing Girl—a title given to actresses personally chosen by Stephen Chow—endured an incredibly demanding filming process for Kung Fu Soccer (功夫女足). To complete one of the movie’s most challenging action sequences, the newcomer spent two days suspended on wires, totaling more than 20 hours in the air.
The revelation came from Kung Fu Soccer co-director Lin Zicong during an interview with First Scene (第一现场). Repeatedly giving Xue Ye a thumbs-up, Lin described her dedication as “extraordinary.”

According to Lin, the passion he saw in the young actress reminded him of the early days working alongside Stephen Chow.
“The fire in her eyes is even stronger than what I saw back then,” he said.
One Scene Took More Than 100 Takes
Lin revealed that Xue Ye had numerous wire-assisted action scenes, with one of the most difficult sequences taking two full days to complete. She remained suspended in the air for more than 20 hours while filming.
The scene featured a high-flying kick that became one of the film’s signature action moments. During filming, an assistant director jokingly told Xue Ye that she was about to break a record.
At first, she thought it was a compliment. She later learned it referred to the number of failed takes. The sequence wasn’t completed until it had been filmed more than 100 times.
Because she spent so much time hanging from the wires, Xue Ye even had to eat her boxed meals while still suspended in the air.
Learning Everything From Scratch
The challenge was even greater because Kung Fu Soccer marked Xue Ye’s first film. Before joining the production, she had no experience with wire work or action choreography.
Under the guidance of the film’s stunt team, she trained relentlessly until she was able to complete the demanding sequence to the standards expected by Stephen Chow and the production crew.
In a separate interview with Sohu Entertainment, Lin said Xue Ye had more wire scenes than most of the cast. Despite the physically exhausting experience, the actress now looks back on the production with fond memories.
“It was definitely challenging at the time, but when I look back now, I only remember how happy I was. I’m also grateful for all the encouragement and support from everyone on the crew,” Xue Ye said.
Acting Through Her Eyes
Lin said Xue Ye’s biggest challenge wasn’t limited to the action scenes. The character she portrayed had almost no dialogue, meaning she had to convey emotions primarily through body language and facial expressions.
He explained that acting almost entirely with one’s eyes is far more difficult than relying on dialogue, especially in a feature film where subtle expressions are magnified on the big screen.
Many viewers have also praised Xue Ye’s expressive gaze, with some Chinese netizens commenting that she reminds them of actress Shu Qi.
Chosen From More Than 20,000 Audition Hopefuls
Before making her debut, Xue Ye was personally selected by Stephen Chow from more than 20,000 audition participants. At the time, she had no acting experience and was virtually unknown to the public.
After being chosen, she underwent about a year of training before taking on the leading female role in Kung Fu Soccer.
Stephen Chow is well known for discovering new talent and transforming inexperienced newcomers into stars. He followed the same philosophy when casting Xue Ye as his newest Sing Girl.
Lin Zicong, who has worked with Stephen Chow since the Shaolin Soccer era, said it is rare for him to give such high praise to a newcomer. In his view, Xue Ye’s determination and relentless work ethic are what set her apart and convinced him she has a bright future in the film industry.
