Earlier, on July 24, Kung Fu Soccer was overtaken by All Wishes Come True on the daily box office chart. On its 14th day in theaters, Stephen Chow’s film earned 55.75 million yuan (approximately US$7.8 million) for the day while recording a 6.8% audience occupancy rate, significantly lower than the animated film’s 10.6%. At that point, Kung Fu Soccer had accumulated 1.774 billion yuan (approximately US$248 million) in total box office revenue.
Following the slowdown in its daily earnings, China’s leading box office tracking platforms revised their forecasts for the film’s final theatrical run. Lighthouse Professional Edition lowered its projection to 2.427 billion yuan (approximately US$339 million), while Maoyan Professional Edition reduced its estimate to 2.7 billion yuan (approximately US$377 million), down from its earlier forecast of more than 3 billion yuan (approximately US$419 million).
Despite the downward revisions, Kung Fu Soccer has continued to demonstrate strong staying power. By July 26, the film’s cumulative gross had climbed past 1.9 billion yuan (approximately US$265 million), reinforcing its position as one of China’s highest-grossing releases of the year.
Meanwhile, during a recent promotional roadshow for the film, Stephen Chow expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support since the movie’s release. Responding to the encouragement and congratulations from moviegoers, the Hong Kong filmmaker said, “Without your support, we are nothing.”
The heartfelt remark quickly resonated with fans and became one of the most widely shared moments from the film’s promotional tour, highlighting the appreciation Chow has for the audience that has helped Kung Fu Soccer remain competitive in China’s crowded summer box office season.
