“During the four months of filming, the entire process was very enjoyable. We were all immersed in creating comedy every day. It was a process I truly enjoyed,” said Bai Jingting, as quoted from a Sohu Entertainment report.
“Every day I laughed so happily. This process gave me extraordinary energy and strength. We hope that our hard work over these four months can spread this joy to the audience and give them encouragement,” he added.
Synopsis: A Superhero Who Must Learn the Ways of Bureaucracy
“Keep Real” tells the story of Wang Changhai (Bai Jingting), a superhero who led the Superhero Association three decades ago and successfully repelled an alien invasion. Years later, Wang Changhai is sent back to his hometown for duty.
There, he teams up with Lao Xia (Wei Xiang), the local branch director, to form a superhero combat squad. However, his first day on the job is full of problems. Ignoring Lao Xia’s advice, Wang Changhai immediately targets officials with connections, embarrasses the former county magistrate, and completely disregards personal favors.
However, all his efforts end up backfiring on him. Wang Changhai slowly realizes that even a superhero must learn to adapt to local rules. With Lao Xia’s help, he begins to hone his political acumen and build a solid combat team.
Character Transformation
Bai Jingting explained that the transformation of the Wang Changhai character from an idealistic figure to a wiser one is not a form of total compromise.
“After experiencing several events, he realized that ‘I can only use your rules, and within your rules, I will defeat you.’ So ultimately, he chose that method to solve the problems he faced,” Bai Jingting explained.
This superhero comedy directed by Xing Wenxiong promises fresh laughs wrapped in social critique about bureaucracy and the realities of social life. What will be the continuation of Wang Changhai’s adventure as a superhero? Stay tuned for its release in your favorite cinemas.
