LayarHijau— Great news arrives for fans of the high-stakes political intrigue drama, Joy of Life. This series, which masterfully blends time-travel elements, comedy, and power struggles, is set to continue its saga following the massive success of its first two seasons. The story follows the journey of Fan Xian, a young man with memories of the modern world who finds himself entangled in the complex political web of the Qing Empire, portrayed by the talented actor Zhang Ruoyun.
Actor Tian Yu, who captured hearts with his portrayal of Fan Xian’s loyal assistant Wang Qinian, recently shared latest details regarding the upcoming production plans. In a statement on April 14, he revealed that the production team is striving to begin filming by the end of this year or early next year. Interestingly, there are major plans to merge the filming process for both Joy of Life Season 3 and Season 4, ensuring narrative continuity and production efficiency for the upcoming chapters.

This update also brings much-needed certainty regarding the return of the main cast members who have become synonymous with the series. Tian Yu confirmed his return, followed by Zhang Ruoyun, Li Qin as Lin Wan’er, and veteran actor Chen Daoming as the enigmatic Emperor Qing. Additionally, Wu Gang is confirmed to reprise his role as the intelligence chief Chen Pingping. The team’s stability is further bolstered by the return of director Sun Hao and brilliant screenwriter Wang Juan to lead the production of this epic continuation.
Screenwriter Wang Juan previously hinted at the deepening direction of the story. Through his posts, he explained the transition of the protagonist’s role in each phase. “In the first season he was a pawn, in the second season he became a player. With weapons in hand and the layout complete, the remaining story will be a continuous and complete plot, all leading back to the theme of the third season,” he stated, providing insight into the grand design of the narrative.
The official announcement for the new seasons of Joy of Life was also accompanied by a promotional poster that sparked curiosity. Featuring the slogan, “The remaining years are endless, dreaming together. The final battle, the curtain is about to rise!” the production team promises a climax to all the conflicts established so far. Responding to the hype, Zhang Ruoyun posted a short yet meaningful message on social media, “An Zhi, wait for it,” referring to his character Fan Xian’s courtesy name.
Since its initial release, Joy of Life has become one of the most popular dramas with a massive international following. Its first season achieved a high score of 7.9 on the Douban platform, while the second season maintained its popularity with a score of 7.3. With plans for back-to-back filming for the third and fourth seasons, fans hope that the long waiting periods between seasons will be minimized, allowing Fan Xian’s epic tale in the Qing Empire to be concluded with the perfect narrative pace.
