LayarHijau — Zhao Lusi is reportedly set to star in The Shuttle Keeper (执梭师), a historical fantasy drama adapted from a web novel of the same name. According to media reports, filming is scheduled to begin next year. There has been no official announcement from the streaming platform or Zhao Lusi’s side so far.
The source material is confirmed: the web novel Zhi Suo Shi (执梭师) by Chinese author En Yang. The story centers on Emperor Xie Changyin, who travels through time to find the love he cannot forget and has lost. The empress, the female lead, discovers she is only a substitute but is still drawn into the story. She later becomes Princess Jiang Sui. The two keep meeting at different points in time under changing identities. Each is the unforgettable love of the other and also a substitute for them, in a loop of cause and effect that is hard to escape.

Zhao Lusi is reportedly cast as Princess Jiang Sui. The drama is also reportedly directed by Lu Tian. Reports say he previously worked with Zhao Lusi on Love of Thousand Years (三千鸦杀), the 2020 drama she also starred in. He is also said to be involved in the short drama Sonder: I Am Not an NPC (Sonder·我就不是NPC) . If accurate, The Shuttle Keeper would be their third collaboration.
The short drama has already aired. The five-episode series began streaming on Douyin on Oct. 11, 2026, with Zhao Lusi as supervising producer. She does not act in it.
The same reports say The Shuttle Keeper has been submitted to China’s state broadcast regulator for review. Feng Deng Ji (逢灯纪) had earlier been expected to start filming first. The submission claim comes from media reports, not an official announcement.
What is official is a different project. Youku announced on Sept. 16, 2026, that Zhao Lusi will direct and star in Farewell Letter (告别信), part of the platform’s 2027 lineup. The drama will mark her directorial debut. Its episode count, cast list, and air date have not been announced. Farewell Letter is reportedly 10 episodes with a roughly 60-day shoot, and filming is reportedly set to begin in November.
Zhao Lusi rose to wider fame with Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼), which aired in 2025. Her last historical drama was The Story of Pearl Girl (珠帘玉幕) in 2024. According to media reports, she has gone nearly two years without filming a new drama.
Other reports remain unconfirmed. Zhao Lusi has reportedly withdrawn from As Beautiful as You Want (要多美丽就多美丽), a drama planned with Yang Xiaopei, producer of Shine On Me (骄阳似我). Her fee was reportedly as high as 78 million yuan (about $11.5 million). Her studio has also reportedly bought the adaptation rights to nine works (IP). None of these figures or claims has been confirmed by any party.
