LayarHijau – Hong Kong screen legend Loletta Lee has finally opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her life that she kept hidden for more than three decades. In a recent interview, she revealed the true reason behind her decision to take on adult film roles at the height of her fame—not for popularity or career ambition, but to support her family and fund her younger brother’s education abroad.
Loletta rose to fame at just 17 years old through the film Happy Ghost, where her sweet and innocent image quickly captured the public’s attention. However, behind that early success, she was already carrying the heavy responsibility of being the main breadwinner for a family of six.

Facing mounting financial pressure, she made a life-changing decision that would redefine her career path. Determined to send her younger brother to study in Canada, she accepted a suggestion from director Clifton Ko to transition into adult films. One of her most notable works, Crazy Love, sparked widespread discussion and significantly boosted both her fame and earnings.
Thanks to that decision, her family’s financial situation improved dramatically. At one point, her salary reportedly surpassed that of top-tier actresses such as Brigitte Lin. Every step she took during that period was driven by a single goal: to provide a better life for her family and fulfill her responsibility as their primary provider.
Despite achieving financial success, Loletta never abandoned her passion for serious acting. After 1996, she chose to step away from adult film roles entirely. Her transformation culminated in her performance in Ordinary Heroes, directed by Ann Hui. With a restrained yet powerful performance, she won Best Actress at the Golden Horse Awards, proving her range and successfully shedding the labels of her past.
However, professional success did not translate into personal fulfillment. Following the passing of her parents, her family gradually fell apart. She revealed that the brother she once supported—now settled in Canada—has grown increasingly distant, and they are now almost completely out of contact. Her relationship with other family members has also faded over the years.
The sacrifices she made, including risking her reputation for the sake of her family, ultimately became a lingering regret she still carries.
Now at 60, Loletta Lee shared that she has not been in a romantic relationship for over a decade and has come to embrace single life. Her daughter, Xu Yirong, remains her greatest source of happiness. As her daughter prepares to enter marriage, Loletta expresses nothing but love, hope, and heartfelt anticipation for her future.
