LayarHijau— The historical drama Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) has not only propelled its lead actors like Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei to new heights but has also shone a spotlight on its supporting cast. One of the most talked-about performances comes from Deng Kai, who portrays the complex and unstable character Qi Min. His portrayal of the “crazy” eldest imperial grandson has captivated audiences, making him a breakout star in the competitive landscape of Chinese dramas.

Deng Kai is not a newcomer, having spent eight years playing minor roles before his sudden rise to fame in Pursuit of Jade. His popularity was so unexpected that his official studio Weibo account was reportedly registered in a rush after his character went viral. Furthermore, his on-screen chemistry with Kong Xue’er, who plays Yu Qianqian, has garnered a massive following, leading to high-profile appearances on variety shows like Hi6 to celebrate their popular pairing.
However, with great fame comes intense scrutiny, and Deng Kai recently found himself at the center of a social media storm. The controversy began when a female game streamer posted a message online thanking Deng Kai for visiting her live-streaming room late at night. This post quickly caught the attention of netizens, leading to a wave of speculation and criticism regarding the actor’s private online activities.
As the news spread, some netizens began to label the streamer as someone who creates “borderline” or suggestive content, which reflected poorly on Deng Kai’s rising reputation. The backlash grew so significant that the streamer felt compelled to issue a detailed clarification to protect both herself and the actor from further misunderstanding. She emphasized that her streams are focused solely on gaming and do not feature her face.
In her public defense, the streamer provided interaction logs from the past month to prove that Deng Kai’s visit was brief and devoid of any financial tips or private communication. “I am just an amateur game streamer using a side account for broadcasting. I don’t show my face at all, and Deng Kai had no interaction with me whatsoever,” she stated in her lengthy post. She explained that she was simply excited as a fan who had recently watched his drama, and she never expected her simple thank-you note to cause such a massive misunderstanding.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the pressures faced by rising stars in the digital age. For an actor like Deng Kai, who has spent nearly a decade working toward this breakthrough in Pursuit of Jade, even a few minutes spent browsing a live stream can be magnified into a major public relations crisis. It highlights the reality that for public figures, there is no such thing as a private move once they are in the spotlight.
