LayarHijau – The popularity of the Chinese drama Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) has reached Thailand in an unexpected way. A Thai military conscription poster recently went viral after featuring a horseback-riding scene of Zhang Linghe as Marquis Wu’an from the drama.

According to World Journal on Sunday, March 29, the poster directly quoted the scene with the tagline: “Want to look as cool as Marquis Wu’an riding a horse? This April, enlist and choose the cavalry unit.”

The poster is part of a broader promotional campaign. The Thai military reportedly released a total of 55 posters using similar concepts, combining trending topics with recruitment messaging. The light and humorous tone quickly sparked widespread discussion online.

Captain Bai Toey, who leads the Royal Thai Army’s new media division, revealed that Pursuit of Jade is currently very popular in Thailand, especially among younger audiences. “No matter which website I browse, content related to this drama keeps appearing,” she said.

She also shared her personal enthusiasm for the series. “I really like Pursuit of Jade, and I can even pronounce the name of the main character, Marquis Wu’an, in Chinese,” she added.

Explaining the idea behind the poster, Bai Toey said: “The main character looks incredibly cool riding a horse, and since Thailand’s conscription season is approaching, we thought of combining that image with encouraging young people to join the cavalry.”

The creative concept was proposed by Chayuth N, a well-known Thai actor who is currently serving in the military. With his background in the entertainment industry, he is considered adept at identifying trends that resonate with young people and incorporating them into military promotion.

As for the campaign’s effectiveness, Bai Toey noted that it is still too early to measure its impact. “The posters have just been released, so we haven’t seen a clear effect on enlistment numbers yet. But many young people in Thailand like this drama, and they also like our posters. We hope to take advantage of the drama’s popularity to increase enlistment this year,” she said.
