The document unexpectedly sparked a new round of discussion because it appeared to reveal information about the actor’s real age.
In the document circulating online, Cheng Yi’s age quickly drew public attention. Many internet users began questioning whether the actor’s birth year is truly the same as what the public has known for years.
Amid the growing discussion, Cheng Yi’s former manager, Liang Ting, eventually addressed the issue in a social media post. She admitted that the actor’s age had indeed been adjusted in the past, but explained that the change actually happened when he was still a child.
According to Liang Ting, the adjustment was made so that Cheng Yi could start school one year earlier. She said that when he was young, Cheng Yi was slightly taller than other children his age, which led his family to report an age that was one year older so he could enroll in school sooner.
However, after Cheng Yi entered the entertainment industry, Liang Ting felt it would be more appropriate to use his real age again. This, she explained, is why the differing information later appeared and caused confusion among the public. She also emphasized that Cheng Yi is still considered to have been born in 1990.
Even so, the explanation has not completely settled the debate among netizens. In the comment sections, some people questioned the reasoning behind changing his age for school enrollment. They argued that at the time there were no strict age restrictions for starting school, making the explanation seem less convincing.
Some netizens even dug up Cheng Yi’s old school photos and shared them online again, questioning the claim that he looked noticeably taller than his classmates.
Others raised another point of curiosity. Several users speculated that if Cheng Yi was indeed born in 1990, it would mean he shares the same birth year as his younger sister, which they found puzzling.
