On February 13, Song Yi shared a photo of herself dining at a restaurant on her Weibo account. Sharp-eyed fans quickly noticed that the background looked strikingly similar to a picture Bai Jingting had posted nine months earlier. The resemblance was enough to spark rumors that the two might have quietly reunited.
The pair have been linked since 2022, after starring together in Destined (長風渡). Although neither ever publicly confirmed their relationship, they were frequently seen in coordinated outfits and were often described as unusually close during promotions. However, reports of a breakup began circulating in early 2024, making the timing of the new photo all the more intriguing for fans.
As speculation intensified, reactions split into two camps. Some believed the matching restaurant backdrop was a subtle signal that the former couple were still seeing each other. Others accused Song Yi of deliberately stirring attention, especially among Bai Jingting’s fan base.
The situation escalated further when Song Yi replaced the original post with a cartoon image of a couple dining together. To some netizens, the change seemed like a cryptic response to the rumors. Heated exchanges soon followed in the comments section, and the topic began trending on social media.
However, a report from China.com later suggested that the so-called “same restaurant check-in” controversy was based on a misunderstanding. Bai Jingting’s photo from nine months ago was taken during a public brand event as a Louis Vuitton ambassador at THE HALL in Chengdu. Song Yi’s recent photo, meanwhile, was taken at HALO SOUL COFFEE in Qingdao — a branch of the same brand concept but located in a completely different city.
The two venues are more than 1,500 kilometers apart, and the gap between the posts amounts to 263 days. There has also been no public interaction between the two during that period to suggest an ongoing romantic relationship.
Rumors of their relationship first emerged during the filming and promotion of Destined in 2022. At the height of speculation, Bai Jingting was even photographed allegedly bringing Song Yi to meet his parents in Beijing. As recently as June 2023, the two appeared notably close while promoting the drama, with Bai Jingting seen placing a protective arm around her in public appearances.
By early 2024, however, their interactions noticeably declined. Breakup rumors gained traction after Song Yi reportedly deleted a fan’s question about marriage plans last August. The speculation intensified again when Bai Jingting was linked to his co-star in The First Frost (難哄), Zhang Ruonan. In January, a well-known paparazzo claimed that Bai Jingting and Song Yi were almost certainly no longer together.
Adding to the latest controversy, Song Yi was recently found to have unfollowed Bai Jingting on Douyin, reducing the number of accounts she follows from three to two. On February 14, Bai Jingting’s studio also released an update on ongoing legal action against several internet users accused of spreading rumors — some of whom were identified as Song Yi’s fans.
With the significant distance between the two restaurant locations and the nine-month gap between posts, the viral speculation appears to say more about ongoing fandom tensions than about any confirmed reunion between the actors.
