LayarHijau – The competition among Chinese-language dramas last year was intense, with productions from both mainland China and Taiwan attracting global viewers. Netflix has now released its 2025 ranking of the most popular Chinese-language dramas based on total times viewed throughout the year.
The romantic drama The First Frost (难哄), starring Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan, claimed the top spot with 6.1 million times viewed. This figure far surpassed other titles, including the Taiwanese mystery drama The Resurrected (回魂計) starring Shu Qi, as well as other popular dramas in the top ten.

The success of The First Frost also boosted its “sister” drama, Hidden Love (偷偷藏不住), starring Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan. Originally released in 2023, the series saw a resurgence in popularity, reaching 3.3 million times viewed and securing the second spot. Third place went to the costume drama Perfect Match (五福臨門), starring Lu Yuxiao and Wang Xingyue, with a total of 3 million times viewed.
Taiwanese dramas also performed strongly in the rankings. Had I Not Seen the Sun (如果我不曾見過太陽), The Resurrected, and I Am Married… But! (童話故事下集) all made it into the top ten. Several actresses had two dramas each on the list, including Zhao Lusi, Ko Chia-yen, Lu Yuxiao, and Zhang Miaoyi. Zhao Lusi appears twice with Hidden Love and the costume drama The Story of Pearl Girl (珠簾玉幕), which she stars in alongside Liu Yuning.
The First Frost, directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Qu Youning, is known for its soft visuals and detailed emotional storytelling. This approach enhanced the bittersweet romance between Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan’s characters, turning the drama into one of the biggest phenomena of 2025. The on-screen couple’s popularity even sparked real-life romance rumors, exciting fans further.
Also written by Zhu Yi, Hidden Love performed strongly again, taking the second spot. Zhao Lusi stood out as one of the most prominent actresses with two dramas on the list. The Story of Pearl Girl secured the eighth position with 1.8 million times viewed.
Fourth place went to the Taiwanese mystery drama Had I Not Seen the Sun, starring Tseng Jing-hua, Ko Chia-yen, and other actors, with 2.9 million times viewed. The series attracted attention for its emotional exploration of female trauma wrapped in an investigative storyline. Ko Chia-yen also appeared in the wedding comedy I Am Married… But! alongside Jasper Liu, which ranked seventh with 2.1 million times viewed.
The mystery drama The Resurrected, starring Shu Qi, Lee Sinje, and Fu Mengbo, took fifth place with 2.4 million times viewed. The story of two mothers seeking justice for their children immediately drew attention due to its dark theme and emotional depth.
The campus romance When I Fly Towards You (當我飛奔向你), starring Zhou Yiran and Zhang Miaoyi, surprised many by reaching sixth place with 2.1 million times viewed. Zhang Miaoyi also appears in The First Frost as a supporting character, adding to the overall buzz. Ninth place went to the romantic drama Ski Into Love (噓，國王在冬眠) starring Esther Yu and Lin Yi, with 1.7 million times viewed.
These rankings show that romance remains the dominant genre in Chinese-language dramas on Netflix, though mystery dramas and Taiwanese productions continue to compete strongly and earn international recognition.
