LayarHijau – Guli Nazha has opened up about behind-the-scenes moments from the costume romance drama Glory, in which she stars alongside Hou Minghao. Appearing on Sohu Video’s variety program Fox Factory Star (狐厂大明星), Nazha shared her impressions of working with Hou Minghao, including their on-set chemistry and the actor’s tendency to laugh during intimate scenes.
Nazha explained that her decision to join Glory came after receiving a direct invitation from the show’s writer and producer, Yu Zheng. After reading the script, she was immediately drawn to the story and especially to her character, Rong Shanbao. According to Nazha, Rong Shanbao is independent, clear-minded, and strong-willed—qualities that made her eager to take on the role.
In bringing Rong Shanbao to life, Nazha focused heavily on acting details, particularly through her eyes. She believes that much of the character’s inner emotions are conveyed through her gaze, and if the eye acting isn’t precise, the audience might miss the intended meaning. Small hand gestures are also crucial to making the character feel layered and vibrant.
When she learned she would be acting alongside Hou Minghao, Nazha admitted she was excited. Since they already knew each other, there was no awkward adjustment period on set. This familiarity allowed them to quickly find the rhythm and chemistry needed for the story.
In Glory, Hou Minghao plays Lu Jianglai. Nazha described Lu Jianglai as the “most tea” character—a term used online in China to refer to someone who appears gentle but is actually highly strategic and calculated. While initially scheming, the character remains consistent within the story, gradually endearing himself to viewers. Nazha noted that Lu Jianglai is not frustrating to watch; on the contrary, he becomes increasingly charming and intriguing as the series progresses.
However, behind the camera, the atmosphere is not always serious. Nazha revealed that Hou Minghao laughs easily, particularly during intimate scenes. She described kiss scenes as especially prone to breaking into laughter, causing takes to be interrupted. When their physical proximity was close or interactions became intense, Hou Minghao often couldn’t hold back his laughter.
Nazha recalled one particularly emotional kiss scene where both felt shy at first. To keep the take on track, she would firmly remind Hou Minghao not to laugh first, since one person breaking into laughter could derail the entire scene and force multiple retakes.
In addition to kiss scenes, Nazha shared a story about the iconic “kicking off the shoe” moment during a confession scene. She revealed that the idea was her own. She felt that having Hou Minghao remove his shoes one by one would disrupt the emotional flow of the scene. Since Rong Shanbao is portrayed as bold and proactive in expressing her feelings, Nazha decided to kick the shoes herself to keep the rhythm of the scene intact. The idea even made the director joke that it was “too daring,” especially since in some early takes, the shoes flew quite far.
Through this interview, Guli Nazha demonstrated that a comfortable, trusting working relationship with Hou Minghao is a key factor in the strong on-screen chemistry between Rong Shanbao and Lu Jianglai in Glory. The combination of natural behind-the-scenes interactions and serious character preparation makes their romantic storyline feel alive and convincing on screen.
