LayarHijau – Actor and singer Liu Yuning once again became a topic of public discussion following remarks he made during his birthday livestream on January 7. Responding to fans who asked why he has not yet joined a new drama production, Liu Yuning spoke frankly, saying he has no intention of taking on projects without careful consideration.
During the livestream, Liu Yuning explained that his decision to stay away from filming sets is not due to a lack of work opportunities, but because he has yet to encounter a script that truly meets his standards. He described forcing himself to accept unsuitable projects as a form of “self-harm” to one’s career. According to him, there are two non-negotiable conditions before he agrees to star in a drama: a solid, well-written story and a strong sense of connection with the character.

“If the story isn’t good and I don’t feel aligned with the role, filming becomes unhappy and feels meaningless,” Liu Yuning said.
His comments quickly drew attention when he compared his own approach to what he sees happening in the industry. Speaking bluntly, he remarked, “Some people have dramas flop one after another, yet they keep filming.” The statement immediately sparked speculation online, with netizens guessing who he might be referring to and even naming several male actors known for having strong industry backing.
Despite the speculation, many fans expressed strong support for Liu Yuning. They praised him for being responsible and principled about his career choices, especially given his consistent performance record over the years.
As a leading actor in historical costume dramas, Liu Yuning has starred in four major productions. A Journey to Love (一念關山), which aired earlier, achieved high popularity and became a key milestone in his acting career. This was followed by The Story of Pearl Girl (珠簾玉幕) and The Prisoner of Beauty (折腰), both of which received platform popularity certifications exceeding 10,000. Meanwhile, A Dream Within A Dream (書卷一夢) set a premiere record on iQIYI and earned positive recognition for both its storytelling and performances.
Beyond his acting career, Liu Yuning also talked about fitness during the livestream. He shared that he has recently started exercising more seriously but does not rely on extreme dieting. For him, eating enough is essential to maintain the energy required for high-intensity training.
When a viewer asked about his abs, Liu Yuning responded casually, mentioning that actor Chen Xingxu has five-pack abs, while he himself has six. However, he joked that his are currently the “hidden version.” He ended the moment playfully by sticking out his tongue at the camera, prompting laughter and enthusiastic reactions from viewers.
Liu Yuning’s straightforward manner when speaking about his career and the entertainment industry continues to shape his public image as someone unafraid to voice his personal views, while ensuring that every statement he makes remains a topic of discussion.
