One viral post summarized the situation as follows:
- On Monday, producer Yu Zheng mentioned during a livestream that the producer of Confession had approached him to have Wang Xingyue join the project. Around the same time, several entertainment accounts also claimed that the drama was changing its lead actor.
- In response, Arthur Chen’s team stated that Confession is still progressing with Chen as the sole preferred choice. The statement added that several other projects are currently under discussion and reminded fans not to be misled by unverified rumors, noting that “nothing is final until the official announcement.”
- Yu Zheng later replied to a comment on Weibo, clarifying that he hasn’t read the Confession script yet and has only been contacted by the production team, but no evaluation or confirmation has been made.
In other words, there has been no official confirmation so far regarding who will play the male lead in Confession. The rumors circulating on Weibo still point to two strong contenders: Arthur Chen and Wang Xingyue.
Confession will be directed by Zhang Xiao’an, who is best known for the drama Always Home. The story centers on Xu Sui, a quiet and intelligent girl who secretly falls for Zhou Jingze, a free-spirited young man who later becomes a pilot. They once shared a warm teenage romance that ended due to a misunderstanding. Years later, fate brings them back together—Xu Sui has become a surgeon, while Zhou Jingze is going through a difficult time at a training base. As they drift in and out of each other’s lives, both come to realize that their old feelings have never truly faded.
The story follows Xu Sui, a quiet and diligent girl who secretly falls for Zhou Jingze during high school. Motivated by her feelings, she applies to a university near his. Their youthful love burns bright but brief—filled with moments of friendship, band practice, and impulsive bets. Years later, they meet again: Xu Sui has become a skilled surgeon, while Zhou Jingze is struggling at a dusty training base after being framed. As they reconnect, Zhou Jingze gradually uncovers her long-kept secret crush. In the end, they overcome hardships together, rekindling their bond, while their friend Hu Qianxi passes away from a heart condition, leaving behind Shen Nanzhou. Zhou Jingze eventually joins China’s Air Rescue Team, with Xu Sui beside him in the medical rescue unit—a bittersweet but hopeful conclusion to their youthful romance.
With no official statement yet from Tencent or the production team, fans remain divided on whether the lead role will indeed shift from Arthur Chen to Wang Xingyue.
