LayarHijau – In recent days, social media has been abuzz with short videos claiming that Chinese actress Yang Mi was involved in a car accident. According to LayarHijau’s investigation, at least two YouTube shorts have been uploaded. The first is a 10-second video uploaded two weeks ago, and the second is a 5-second video uploaded 9 days ago.
The 10-second video uploaded two weeks ago appeared on an English-language channel. It has been viewed over 600,000 times, received 6,500 likes, and has 858 comments, with some viewers attempting to link it to the Yu Menglong case.
The 5-second video uploaded 9 days ago by an Indonesian-language channel shows a burning yellow car alongside a photo of Yang Mi wearing an oxygen mask. The thumbnail reads in English: “Shocking Incident: Yang Mi’s Car Caught Fire, Netizens React”, with additional text in Indonesian: “Gimana ini kok satu persatu orang yang membela Yu Menglong jadi sakit, selain itu kecelakaan, mungkin ini perbuatan orang yang membunuh Yu Menglong.” [Why is it that everyone defending Yu Menglong ends up getting sick, and now a car accident too—could this be the act of the person who killed Yu Menglong?]

However, LayarHijau’s investigation confirms that Yang Mi has posted photos of herself appearing to be in a car accident, but these were promotional images for her film and not real incidents.
In reality, publicly verifiable information only covers two separate events that are often misunderstood:
Film accident scenes
In 2015’s The Witness (我是证人), Yang Mi played a blind girl in several car accident scenes. During promotion, she posted photos showing bruises on her face with the caption “This is how I look after an accident,” which were actually from the filming process. The movie tells the story of a witness surviving a crash and seeking the truth behind it, and Yang Mi’s performance received widespread praise.
Crew driver incident in 2023
While filming Nothing Can’t Be Undone by a Hotpot (没有一顿火锅解决不了的事), a crew driver named Wang Baoling (56) reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage and fell into a coma. His family accused the production of failing to provide social insurance, paying only 220 yuan per day with over 12-hour shifts, and stopping medical coverage after paying 120,000 yuan. Although Yang Mi was present on set, there is no legal basis holding her personally responsible; the case is classified as a labor dispute rather than a personal accident.
Before covering Yang Mi’s recent public appearances, it’s worth noting that rumors circulated linking Yang Mi to Yu Menglong’s death. Previous claims suggested that Yang Mi had tried three times to invite Yu Menglong to join her agency.
Thus, the short videos depicting a burning car and Yang Mi wearing an oxygen mask are clearly hoaxes using manipulated visuals to draw attention to the Yu Menglong case.
Yang Mi herself is reported to be in good condition. She remains active in public events. On October 26, 2025, she attended two major events: the VOGUE China 20th Anniversary Gala at the Bund in Shanghai, and a promotional event for the mobile game Honor of Kings, where a video of her stifling laughter beside actor-comedian Shen Teng went viral on social media. Two days later, on October 28, Yang Mi also appeared at an event hosted by ELLE magazine.
These facts confirm that claims of Yang Mi being in a car accident are part of a series of misleading hoax videos with no basis in truth.
