Here are the 3 main points that make “Yummy Yummy Yummy” a must-watch:
1. The Captivating Chemistry Between Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui
“Yummy Yummy Yummy” is adapted from the Chinese novel Chang’an Xiao Fangguan. The story begins when Shen Shaoguang (played by Wang Yinglu) and her family accidentally time-travel directly from the modern era to ancient times, specifically to Yong’an City. Since the Shen family runs a successful modern catering business, they open a restaurant there, serving contemporary dishes like mala hotpot and jianbing guozi, which unexpectedly start a food craze.
During this adventure, Shen Shaoguang encounters the handsome young official Lin Yan (played by Li Yunrui). Their meeting develops into a unique tale of food and romance.
The chemistry between Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui is highly visible in the drama’s trailer, which has already surpassed 4 million views. Their relationship quickly evolves from initial suspicion to closeness bonded by food. Shen Shaoguang’s cheeky nickname for him, “Old Ancestor,” adds an element of fun to their cross-time romance.
2. A Creative Twist on the Time-Travel Plot
Compared to standard single-protagonist time-travel costume dramas, “Yummy Yummy Yummy” offers a more creative touch. In this series, the female lead, Shen Shaoguang, brings her entire family with her through time, and they even start a modern food business in the past.
This fresh storyline not only adds excitement to Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui’s romance but also injects significant humor into the narrative, thanks to Shen Shaoguang’s amusing family members, as Upmedia reported.
3. Extremely Mouth-Watering Food Visuals
Many netizens commented that watching the “Yummy Yummy Yummy” trailer felt like watching a food show that made them instantly hungry. Given the plot’s strong focus on culinary promotion, the director used extensive camera work to highlight the dishes.
From the bubbling sound of the hotpot broth and the seductive red sauce on the ribs to the colorful jianbing guozi, every dish is presented with alluring visual detail. Combined with the eating scenes (mukbang) featuring the actors, the overall atmosphere surrounding the food is warm and authentic, making viewers eager to try the dishes themselves. This is undoubtedly one of the drama’s biggest highlights.
Will “Yummy Yummy Yummy” succeed in its premiere clash with the highly-anticipated “Love’s Ambition”?
