That drama competed with The Prisoner of Beauty, starring Song Zuer and Liu Yuning, which just finished airing yesterday, Thursday, May 29. The popularity of both dramas is reflected in their ratings and their rankings on several popular Chinese drama lists.
Interestingly, netizens discovered that Xiao Zhan and Song Zuer once collaborated by singing the theme song The Best Summer and also starred in its music video. The music video features a high school romance theme.
At that time, Xiao Zhan was 27 years old and wore a high school uniform. Meanwhile, Song Zuer, who was 21 years old, still looked cute with bangs and a ponytail. Xiao Zhan played the guitar, made heart-shaped hand gestures, and even invited his friends to help celebrate Song Zuer’s birthday to make her happy. In the end, they both successfully got into the same university and exchanged sweet smiles — a moment now called the “dream collaboration” by netizens. It’s no surprise many hope they will be reunited again in a drama project, wrote Upmedia.
For your information, Xiao Zhan first became known to the public through the talent show X-Fire ten years ago. He officially debuted as a member of the group X玖少年团 (X Nine) in 2016, and in the same year, he began acting through the web drama Super Star Academy (超星星星学院). His career skyrocketed in 2019 thanks to his role as Yan Bingyun in Joy of Life and as the lead actor alongside Wang Yibo in The Untamed. Although Song Zuer did not debut as a singer, she has a singing background from joining a choir during elementary school, so she was confident when duetting with Xiao Zhan on The Best Summer.
Meanwhile, Xiao Zhan is currently captivating viewers with his new drama Legend of Zang Hai, which has received much praise for its grand production and strong acting. On the other hand, Song Zuer has also attracted attention through The Prisoner of Beauty alongside Liu Yuning, where they play a couple who ultimately overcome obstacles, get married, and build a happy little family. Both dramas aired simultaneously and each has its own fan base, making comparisons between them unavoidable.
Seeing their soaring popularity, many netizens hope that their dream reunion on screen will someday come true.
