Thanks to its sweet storyline and romantic moments, the drama’s ranking kept climbing, coming in second among the most popular mainland Chinese dramas — just behind The Prisoner of Beauty starring Liu Yuning and Song Zuer — and even topped the weekly charts at one point.
In Youthful Glory, Song Weilong plays Prince Dingbei, Jiang Xu, a general tasked with defending the borders while secretly scheming to root out corruption at court. To achieve his goal, he enters into a political marriage with the general’s daughter, Ming Tan (played by Bao Shangen), under a prenuptial agreement that strictly limits physical intimacy.
However, Ming Tan misinterprets Jiang Xu’s restraint and starts suspecting that her husband has a “hidden condition.” Determined to clear up the misunderstanding, Jiang Xu switches to full-on flirt mode, hitting her with a triple move that leaves Ming Tan blushing, flustered, and heart racing — making viewers swoon right along with them!
One of the most talked-about moments was Song Weilong’s bath scene, which set social media abuzz with his overflowing masculine charm. A fan-favorite scene shows Jiang Xu inviting Ming Tan to bathe with him, pushing her onto the bed, and confidently saying, “Even though I’ve never been interested in women before, when it comes to husband-and-wife matters, everything is perfectly normal.” He even pretends to undress, creating an irresistibly sweet and teasing atmosphere that had fans grinning ear to ear. Viewers praised their on-screen chemistry as simply magnetic!
Speaking about the most unforgettable scene, Song Weilong revealed that the moment Jiang Xu truly fell for Ming Tan was when she set off fireworks for him. “I feel that was the point where Jiang Xu genuinely started loving Ming Tan,” he told Upmedia. For Bao Shangen, the scene where Song Weilong washed her hair left the deepest impression. She also praised her co-star for being incredibly thoughtful, always considering whether a scene might make her uncomfortable and showing gentlemanly care throughout filming.
Interestingly, the two also share a fun and playful bond off-screen. Bao Shangen laughed, “Song Weilong is so funny, just like an elementary school kid. He would bring clips of my past acting work and ask, ‘Am I handsome? Am I cocky?’ He’s really like a child.” Song Weilong responded with a laugh, “She’s an elementary school kid too!” The pair often sang together on set and affectionately called each other “Longlong” and “Baobao,” making fans even more charmed by their adorable real-life friendship.
With such strong chemistry both on and off-screen, Song Weilong and Bao Shangen have become one of the most beloved drama couples, leaving audiences eagerly awaiting their next project together!
