LayarHijau – Zhao Lusi recently drew public attention after being spotted selling egg pancakes in Hainan. The snack she sold was dan hong gao, a traditional egg pancake from Chengdu. Many initially assumed the scene was part of a variety show recording. However, it later emerged that Zhao Lusi was genuinely selling the food on her own, without any program setup or production crew.

Zhao Lusi later explained the story behind the experience during a livestream on the Douyin account of one of her close female friends on January 23. In the livestream, she openly talked about both the reason and the process behind her decision to sell egg pancakes.

She revealed that the idea first came to her during the summer of last year. At the time, she was livestreaming with the same friend at a noodle shop. In that relaxed moment, Zhao Lusi found herself thinking that opening a small noodle shop after retirement sounded like an appealing and meaningful life plan.

That thought stayed with her during the difficult period when she was involved in a conflict with her former agency, Galaxy Cool Entertainment. At the time, Zhao Lusi felt uncertain about her future in the entertainment industry. Because of that, she had mentioned during several livestreams that if she could no longer continue as an actress, she would open a noodle shop and live a simpler life.

Although Zhao Lusi eventually managed to return to the entertainment industry and has not yet realized her plan to open a noodle shop, she said the desire to experience selling food firsthand never truly disappeared. That lingering wish ultimately led her to try selling egg pancakes in Hainan.

During the livestream, Zhao Lusi also shared details about her experience at the stall. She said they opened the stand quietly and were almost completely unrecognized by customers.
“I just went ahead and did it. We quietly opened the pancake stall, and actually, we weren’t recognized until the last two orders,” Zhao Lusi said.

She emphasized that what left the deepest impression on her was not whether people recognized her or not. Instead, she felt genuinely happy because of the warm atmosphere that day. Zhao Lusi said the other vendors nearby were extremely kind and attentive toward her, making her feel accepted as a fellow small vendor rather than as a celebrity.

According to Zhao Lusi, the experience brought her sincere happiness. Selling egg pancakes was not merely about trying something new, but about experiencing a vibrant and joyful part of life, and finding a way to recharge her own energy after enduring prolonged pressure in both her personal life and career.
