This marks Yuan Bingyan’s first social media update in two years since she became embroiled in a tax scandal in September 2023. She also changed her profile picture, signaling a possible new beginning after a prolonged period of silence.
Before the controversy, Yuan Bingyan was best known for her role as Chu Xuanji in the fantasy drama Love and Redemption (琉璃). Her performance in the series earned her wide recognition and a devoted fanbase for portraying a gentle yet strong female lead.
The tax scandal surrounding Yuan Bingyan began after the Chongqing tax authorities conducted an investigation in 2023. Both Yuan and her affiliated company were found to have filed inaccurate tax reports, including listing personal expenses as company expenditures. She was later ordered to pay back taxes, penalties, and interest totaling nearly three million yuan (around 6.5 billion rupiah).
Although the amount was relatively small compared to other celebrity cases, Yuan’s name still appeared among publicized tax violators. Several brands that had previously collaborated with her reportedly deleted promotional posts featuring her. However, reports also noted that Yuan cooperated fully with the investigation and submitted accurate documentation, which contributed to a lighter penalty.
Yuan Bingyan’s recent social media activity is now seen as a sign that she may be preparing to return to the entertainment industry after her long hiatus. As of this report, neither Yuan nor her agency has made any official statement about upcoming projects.
