Filming for Almost Lover was reportedly very demanding. Zhao was given what’s known in the Chinese entertainment industry as a “yin-yang script”—two different versions of the script, one official for the production team and one altered version for specific actors. This practice often forces actors to memorize more material and improvise on set, adding significant psychological stress. In Zhao’s case, it led to a temporary loss of speech and the ability to walk.
After undergoing months of rehabilitation, Zhao Lusi has recovered enough to stand and appear in public. However, she has not returned to filming. For the past six months, she has been on hiatus, focusing on recovery.
