Sang Yan, portrayed by Bai Jingting, comes from a wealthy family and appears indifferent, yet he has secretly loved Wen Yifan for nine years.
To effectively portray Sang Yan, Bai Jingting invested in his own costumes and committed fully to his role. He acknowledged that facing such a popular character, adapted from a well-known novel, put him under significant pressure.
“Honestly, I’m used to such feedback in the process of novel adaptations, but this is the first time I’ve experienced such a large volume of responses, so the pressure is quite high,” he shared with Sohu.
Bai Jingting also expressed that he has a clear vision for his career. He feels that his role as Sang Yan might be his last chance to play a school character.
“I don’t think I’ll take on this theme again in the near future,” he added. He appreciates the dedication of the creative team and the main cast in this production, which makes him feel fortunate to work with them.
In his interview, Bai Jingting also talked about his first experience meeting Zhang Ruonan. He recalled two significant moments: first, at a film premiere, and second, during a makeup test.
“When we first met at the film premiere, I felt a natural attraction between us,” he said. During the makeup test, they discussed their understanding of the novel and the characters they were portraying. Bai Jingting noted that there was an interesting contrast between their personalities and the characters they played, which posed a unique challenge in their acting process.
When asked about Zhang Ruonan’s qualities as Wen Yifan, Bai Jingting stated, “One of the challenges in portraying this character is expressing the sense of pressure she experiences, which is not just an emotion, but the overall state of the character.”
Regarding fashion, Bai Jingting revealed that he invested in costumes for his character Sang Yan. “I took home everything I bought,” he said. He also mentioned that after filming, Sang Yan’s style influenced his own appearance in real life, leading him to wear more black. “Previously, I preferred more eye-catching outfits, but now I feel more comfortable in simpler colors,” he explained.
The drama also features original songs that fit the storyline perfectly, which makes Bai Jingting feel proud. He hopes that viewers will appreciate their interpretation of the novel and take the opportunity to enjoy their work.
