LayarHijau — Actor Lai Weiming, who played Zhuang Xu in the drama Shine On Me (骄阳似我), reportedly lost his temper after being swarmed by sasaeng fans (obsessive fans who stalk celebrities’ private lives) at Changsha Airport, the capital of China’s Hunan Province, on the night of October 28, 2026. Edited clips of the incident initially drew criticism of him, but public opinion turned after his team released a full account of what happened.
According to Chinese media outlet Dushi Kuaibao Chengshi Hudong (via World Journal), Lai Weiming was said to have been physically surrounded by a group of sasaeng and daipai (paid photographers who shoot celebrities to sell or share the images) as soon as he landed in Changsha. In the crowd, he was reportedly touched, and the handle of his suitcase was crushed and bent.

A statement from Lai Weiming’s staff on social media said staff members and security guards were also shoved to the ground. The sasaeng and daipai were said to have pushed him, held phones right up to his face, and even hurled insults and provocations. Lai Weiming reportedly was squeezed so hard he struggled to breathe, while his staff and security guards were unable to protect him.
After his loud pleas for them to stop went unheeded, Lai Weiming lost his composure. He was said to have thrown a punch at one of the sasaeng and grabbed phones and other filming equipment. In on-site video, he can be heard shouting, “You have absolutely no shame!” Images also circulated that allegedly show a large glass door cracked by the pressure of the crowd.
Lai Weiming’s staff later posted a statement on his official account. “As human beings, please at least keep basic decency and manners,” they wrote.
Before the full account surfaced, some bloggers posted short videos edited out of context, accusing Lai Weiming of “hitting someone” and “acting like a diva.” One wrote, “First time I’ve ever seen a celebrity punch a fan.” The issue briefly topped trending searches on Chinese social media.
The narrative shifted once the full video and the staff’s statement emerged. According to the report, most Chinese netizens and media outlets now side with Lai Weiming. They view his actions as self-defense and a reasonable warning against extreme sasaeng behavior, and strongly condemn the stalkers’ boundary-crossing harassment.
This is not the first time Lai Weiming has been mobbed at an airport. A year ago, he was also surrounded by sasaeng and daipai. While scanning his boarding pass, he was photographed relentlessly and finally snapped at them, “Move! Do you want your phone or not!”
Lai Weiming was born on September 7, 2001, in Ningde, Fujian Province. He is known for several dramas, including When I Fly Towards You (当我飞奔向你), Fangs of Fortune (大梦归离), Reopen My Journals (致1999年的自己), Moonlit Reunion (子夜归), Shine On Me (骄阳似我), and Blossoms of Power (百花杀).
Fans chasing and crowding celebrities at airports is nothing new in China. Fans seeing off or welcoming stars have caused flight delays, and rowdy scenes in airport areas are also common.
