The drama gained strong momentum on its second day. Its effective playback market share climbed to 8.1%, lifting Royal Betrothal to fifth place and earning it a spot among the Top 5 Chinese dramas currently airing.
Royal Betrothal is adapted from The Empire as Betrothal (江山为聘 / Jiang Shan Wei Pin), a novel by Xing Yanyan.
The story follows Meng Tinghui, an orphan who dreams of passing the imperial examination and serving as a government official. During her journey, she crosses paths with the newly enthroned emperor, Ying Gua, and the two work together to eliminate corrupt officials and criminal forces in Shazhou.
After being framed during the imperial examination in the capital, Meng Tinghui clears her name through her intelligence and earns a position at the imperial investigative bureau. As she investigates a series of political conspiracies, she uncovers the secrets of the Blood Moon Society, becoming entangled in the fierce power struggles within the royal court.
As they face mounting challenges together, Meng Tinghui and Ying Gua gradually develop feelings for one another. Side by side, they overcome numerous obstacles, suppress a rebellion, restore order to the imperial government, and protect both the empire and its people.
Competition among currently airing Chinese dramas also remains intense. Overdo (这一秒过火), starring Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan, continues to lead the rankings despite seeing its effective playback market share slip from 18.2% to 16.8%.
Meanwhile, Wind-Born Warriors (兵自风中来), starring Oho Ou, Lan Yingying, and Ding Yongdai, continued its steady rise. Its effective playback market share increased from 13.8% to 15%, moving the drama from third to second place in the latest rankings.
