LayarHijau – The costume drama How Dare You!? (成何體統), starring Wang Churan and Cheng Lei, recently aired its final episode. The series recorded a total of 767 million views and earned a 7.2 rating on Douban. Beyond positive audience reception, the drama also demonstrated impressive commercial performance throughout its run.

From the very first day of broadcast, How Dare You!? (成何體統) attracted strong advertiser interest. In total, the drama secured 31 brand sponsors with 151 advertisement slots amounting to 1,683 seconds of ad duration. This achievement placed it fifth in the number of advertising brands and sixth in average ad duration per episode on iQIYI, surpassing several other popular dramas.

In How Dare You!? (成何體統), Wang Churan plays Wang Cuihua, an ordinary office worker from the modern world who unexpectedly finds herself entering the storyline of a novel. Inside the fictional world, she becomes Yu Wanyin, a palace consort originally destined for a tragic fate according to the book’s plot. Meanwhile, Cheng Lei portrays Xiahou Dan, a seemingly cold and authoritative emperor. It is later revealed that Xiahou Dan is also from the modern world and trapped within the same novel.

Because both characters are aware of the original storyline, Yu Wanyin and Xiahou Dan form an alliance to change their predetermined tragic destinies. Together, they confront palace intrigues, power struggles, and inter-kingdom conflicts. As they recruit allies, resolve crises, and outmaneuver antagonists, their strategic partnership gradually develops into a deeper emotional bond. Their journey centers on rewriting their own ending rather than following the script set by the novel.

Blending comedy, romance, and court intrigue, the drama takes viewers on an emotional ride. In the final episode, Xiahou Dan successfully avoids his original tragic fate and ensures a different ending for Yu Wanyin. The story concludes with a satisfying resolution after the couple overcomes numerous major conflicts side by side.

Commercially, the drama showed strong momentum from day one, attracting 12 advertising brands at launch. At one point, a single episode featured six ad slots, setting a new record for premiere-scale advertising on iQIYI. The number of sponsors continued to grow, with four additional brands joining by the time the finale aired.

Overall, the 32-episode series outperformed several other titles in terms of advertising brands, including A Dream Within A Dream (書卷一夢), Legend of The Magnate (大生意人), Sword and Beloved (天地劍心), and Moonlight Mystique (白月梵星). In average ad duration per episode, it also surpassed Story of Kunning Palace (寧安如夢) and A Journey To Love (一念關山).

Given the strong on-screen chemistry between Wang Churan and Cheng Lei, reports have now emerged suggesting the two may reunite in an upcoming modern drama titled No More Beauties (京洛再無佳人). The project is reportedly to be directed by Guo Jingming and is set in the entertainment industry.

No More Beauties (京洛再無佳人) is adapted from a romance novel of the same name by Qiao Wei’an. The story follows Huang Xitang, a background actress from Hengdian, and Zhao Pingjin, the son of a high-ranking official, as they navigate a painful love story marked by class differences and attempts to mend a fractured relationship. In the novel, Huang Xitang is portrayed as intelligent and strong-willed, while Zhao Pingjin is depicted as cold yet commanding.

Many fans believe Wang Churan and Cheng Lei closely match the original character descriptions. If the rumors prove true, the pair could potentially deliver another hit project together.
