LayarHijauChinese actress Zhao Lusi has drawn widespread attention after hosting a seven-hour livestream aimed at promoting agricultural products from remote areas in Sichuan. The livestream generated total sales of 34 million yuan, equivalent to approximately USD 5.2 million, with Zhao Lusi taking neither appearance fees nor sales commissions.

Zhao Lusi, who regained major public attention through the drama Love’s Ambition (許我耀眼), previously faced health issues and underwent a management change. During her recovery period, she returned to her hometown in Sichuan and participated in the reality program Be Myself (小小的勇氣), which focuses on rural communities and underprivileged groups in remote regions.

Recently, Zhao Lusi has been active on the lifestyle platform Xiaohongshu, where her livestreams are typically casual, featuring conversations with fans and shared meals. Many products she casually mentions or consumes during these streams often sell out quickly, highlighting her strong influence.

Building on this response, Zhao Lusi decided to help farmers whose produce had been struggling to sell. During the seven-hour livestream, she promoted a wide range of agricultural products, including oranges, strawberries, apples, blueberries, various mushrooms, and honey.

At one point, some viewers raised concerns about food safety. Despite having a history of allergies, Zhao Lusi immediately tasted the honey on camera to reassure viewers. Shortly afterward, redness appeared on her neck due to an allergic reaction, a moment that moved many viewers and was widely praised online.

Zhao Lusi emphasized that the entire livestream was conducted on a zero-fee, zero-commission basis, with all proceeds going directly to the farmers. Staff members at the site reportedly expressed disbelief, saying they had never expected a top celebrity to provide such assistance for free.

“The people who truly help the farmers are not me, but those who choose to buy,” Zhao Lusi said during the livestream.

Sales surpassed 10 million yuan within the first hour alone. By the end of the broadcast, total revenue reached 34 million yuan, with over 8.7 million viewers tuning in and approximately 870,000 orders placed.

Zhao Lusi’s actions have earned widespread praise from netizens, many of whom described her efforts as sincere rather than performative, noting that her influence translated into tangible benefits for farmers in remote areas.
