LayarHijau— Recently, Zhang Ruonan was spotted on the set of her latest project. Her new appearance quickly drew attention on Weibo, where the hashtag “Zhang Ruonan’s legs are as thin as bamboo sticks” began trending. The actress instantly became a hot topic on the platform.
“Her legs look like bamboo! Female stars really have to work so hard just to look good on camera,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Being a female celebrity is tough. I just hope she stays healthy.”

Some users felt Zhang Ruonan now looks excessively thin and urged her to eat more. “She looks so skinny, I’m worried about her health. How did she become this thin?” one comment asked.
However, others pointed out that she has been intentionally following a strict diet for her role.
“Zhang Ruonan’s body management is just normal professional practice. But the original post describing her legs as ‘thin as bamboo sticks’ may have overemphasized extreme weight loss. Her weight loss is generally for acting needs — like playing a fragile character in The First Frost. She once went down to 82–84 jin (around 41–42 kg) at 166 cm, then later returned to 47 kg, putting health first. This discipline shows her professionalism, but also reflects how demanding the industry is toward women’s bodies,” one user explained in a longer post.

Interestingly, many fans praised her dedication to her craft. Still, some reminded others that based on her current height-weight ratio, her BMI falls below the healthy standard.
Zhang Ruonan previously appeared in romantic dramas such as My Boss with Cheng Xingxu and A Date with My Future alongside William Chan. But her popularity soared after starring in The First Frost with Bai Jingting.
During the promotional period of The First Frost, her follower count across major Chinese social media platforms reportedly rose by over six million. As frequently discussed by netizens, she intentionally lost weight to around 41 kg during filming to match the physique of her character Wen Yifan, who once trained to be a ballerina.
Zhang Ruonan recently finished shooting the drama Live Up to Your Youth with Bai Yu, directed by Zheng Xiaolong, known for Legend of Zang Hai.
Rumors then surfaced that she would star opposite Wang Anyu in I Live in Your Time, though recent reports claim the two sides have yet to reach an agreement over top billing.
During her live broadcast celebrating her 29th birthday, Zhang Ruonan said she hopes to stay healthy and happy, and to get enough rest to avoid excessive anxiety — a statement that has resurfaced now that her appearance seems even slimmer.
She is currently filming the movie My Girlfriend (我的女朋友) with Jin Jing, where they play best friends. Zhang portrays a breast cancer patient, which reportedly required another round of weight loss. She acknowledged that physical transformation is part of an actor’s responsibility but hopes the public won’t overfocus or exaggerate those changes.
