LayarHijau– Han Yutong revealed that she faced a difficult period before venturing into the world of short dramas. Scarce acting offers nearly forced her to quit her career, until she finally accepted a short drama script and decided to give it a try. “When I was unemployed, I received a short drama script, and I really enjoyed it. At least I could be seen,” she said in a recent interview.

The young actress, born in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, on December 11, 1997, has a unique educational background, having graduated from Tianjin Conservatory of Music, rather than an acting school. Before shifting her focus to acting, Han Yutong was active as a beauty-vlogger on social media, an initial step that gave her an advantage by building a personal connection with a digital audience. Currently, her profession is actress, with a primary focus on web series and short dramas.

Han Yutong became known to the public after appearing in a number of web and short drama productions such as My Uncanny Destiny (2023), Surrender to Her (2025), and Hide My Love in My Heart (2025). Although she has not yet had many opportunities as a lead actress in full-length dramas, her performance in short dramas has successfully captured the attention of digital viewers and opened a wider space for her career. She is considered a new-generation actress who rose through this format, not through the conventional primetime route.

The boom of the short drama phenomenon in China has significantly increased job opportunities. Industry reports indicate that actors with Han Yutong’s level of experience can start earning 2,000–3,000 yuan per day for important mid-level roles (approximately $280 – $420 per day). However, when Han Yutong became a popular main star, especially in hit titles, her daily earnings drastically jumped. Based on industry data, an A-list short drama actor can take home at least 22,000 yuan per day (approximately $3,100 per day).

More interestingly, when she is paired in a Couple Pairing (CP) project, such as with Zeng Hui, her salary package can reach 60,000 yuan per day (approximately $8,400 per day), not including profit-sharing which can reach 5%-8% of the drama’s total revenue. This potential income pushes their estimated annual earnings to between 10 million and 15 million yuan (approximately $1.4 million – $2.1 million).

With a fast production schedule—often requiring only 5–10 days of shooting—actors can accumulate stable and massive income from various titles within a single year. This short format not only provides Han Yutong with income but also career continuity and exposure in the digital market that would have been impossible if she had only waited for conventional projects. She views the path she has taken through short dramas as the only way to survive and prove her acting ability amid fierce competition, and to achieve financial success within the short drama realm.
