LayarHijau.com — After the phenomenal success of Hidden Love and The First Frost, Youku has decided to adapt Zhu Yi’s novel Fold the Moon into a drama. The official title is When I Meet the Moon (Mandarin title: 折月亮, also known as Bend the Moon or Fold the Moon), and it will continue the same universe as its two predecessors.
According to Baidu Baike, Tian Xiwei and Lin Yi are rumored to take the lead roles in this drama. However, Douban currently only lists Tian Xiwei in the cast. On Weibo, various rumors are circulating about potential male leads, including Wang Anyu or the pairing of Miles Wei and Wu Xuanyi. The drama will be available on the Youku platform, which seems eager to replicate the success of its previous hit series.
At present, there is no information yet about the filming schedule. When I Meet the Moon is planned to have 30 episodes.
Synopsis
Everyone loves the moon, but who has ever truly touched its light? Yun Li, a quiet and awkward girl, decides to enroll in a graduate program at Nanwu University to prove to her father that she can live independently. Just before the semester begins, she receives an invitation from a local VR arena to join as a content creator and try out a new experience. There, she crosses paths again with Fu Shizhe — the genius she once secretly admired in high school.
What starts as a one-sided crush soon transforms, as Yun Li begins to actively pursue the cold and distant Fu Shizhe. With the help of the people around her, she works hard to win his heart. Their relationship blossoms, but differences in outlook and painful issues from the past eventually lead to a major conflict and their breakup. Yun Li goes abroad, while Fu Shizhe is left to confront his old wounds and the loss of his best friend. To win Yun Li back, Fu Shizhe rises from his lowest point, regains his career success, and uses everything in his power to chase after the love he lost.
The Connection Between Hidden Love, The First Frost, and When I Meet the Moon
The main character of When I Meet the Moon is Fu Shizhe, described as a tall, slim, and extremely handsome man. Interestingly, he is the uncle of Fu Zhengchu — Sang Zhi’s friend from middle and high school.
In the drama Hidden Love, Fu Zhengchu once confessed his feelings to Sang Zhi at a mall near where Duan Jiaxu worked. When Sang Zhi rejected him and Fu Zhengchu burst into tears, Duan Jiaxu happened to walk by and misunderstood the scene, thinking they had confessed their love to each other and were now dating.
Fu Zhengchu also mistakenly believed that Duan Jiaxu was Sang Zhi’s biological older brother, because Duan Jiaxu had once claimed to be Sang Zhi’s brother when talking to one of her teachers in middle school.
Fu Zhengchu reappears in the novel The First Frost, specifically in extra chapter 3. There, he runs into Sang Zhi at the airport and sees Duan Jiaxu picking her up. Watching their affectionate interactions, Fu Zhengchu once again misunderstands, thinking Sang Zhi is dating her own brother. Naturally, this is against both the law and social morals, so he sends Sang Zhi a WeChat message, advising her to “get back on the right path.”
Later, Fu Zhengchu runs into Sang Zhi again at a supermarket, where Sang Zhi, Duan Jiaxu, Sang Yan, and Wen Yifan are shopping together. Once again, he sees Sang Zhi and Duan Jiaxu holding hands. Frustrated by Fu Zhengchu’s WeChat messages, Sang Zhi clarifies that her real older brother is Sang Yan. Conveniently, Sang Yan is standing right there, so Sang Zhi simply points at him.
During this conversation, Fu Shizhe appears and is introduced as Fu Zhengchu’s uncle. He comes across as cold and indifferent, even when facing Sang Yan and Duan Jiaxu. Unlike Sang Yan’s cocky attitude, Fu Shizhe’s aloof demeanor somehow makes him seem like an adorable puppy.
As Sang Yan observes Fu Shizhe, he mentions his name, but Fu Shizhe remains cold, acting as if Sang Yan doesn’t exist. His demeanor catches the attention of both Wen Yifan and Sang Zhi — it’s the first time they’ve seen a man even more aloof than Sang Yan. They also notice how incredibly handsome Fu Shizhe is. When Sang Yan sees Wen Yifan watching Fu Shizhe intently, he feels jealous and asks, “Handsome, huh?”
When Wen Yifan asks her boyfriend (Sang Yan) if he knows Fu Shizhe, Sang Yan explains that Fu Shizhe was their high school classmate, though a year below them. Later, in the car, Sang Yan teases Sang Zhi about Duan Jiaxu pretending to be her brother back in middle school. Not wanting to lose the teasing game, Sang Zhi asks Wen Yifan whether Fu Shizhe is handsome, even claiming he’s more good-looking than all the men in the car. When she says this, it’s Duan Jiaxu’s turn to feel jealous, while Sang Yan eagerly waits for Wen Yifan’s answer. Wen Yifan, aware she’s in a tough spot, still replies, “He’s pretty handsome.”
In the end, Fu Shizhe’s presence and his cool attitude — as if Sang Yan were a nobody — successfully stir up jealousy in both Sang Yan and Duan Jiaxu.
