The statement revealed that recently, several internet users had circulated baseless accusations against the actress, including claims that she was a “homewrecker,” a “scene-stealer” (加戏), and that she “took advantage of fans and social incidents for personal gain.” The term “scene-stealer” in this context refers to a celebrity who is believed to deliberately make themselves more prominent than they should be—typically by increasing the screen time or importance of their character in a drama.
According to a report by Sohu, the legal team representing Meng Ziyi has filed lawsuits against several individuals suspected of violating her rights. They also stated that they would continue to monitor the situation, collect evidence, and take further legal action against ongoing infringements.
This type of allegation is not new for Meng Ziyi. She faced similar criticism during her appearance in the hit drama The Untamed, where many viewers felt that her character Wen Qing had been given a larger role than in the original novel—fueling speculation that her scenes were deliberately expanded.
On the same day, Meng Ziyi’s studio also released a separate “firm statement,” noting that the spread of false public opinion surrounding the actress had “grown out of control” and was escalating at an alarming rate. The studio called on fans to maintain rational behavior and help create a cleaner, healthier online environment.
