The chemistry between the two left a deep impression on viewers, leading to a surge of CP (couple pairing) fans. To this day, these CP fans discuss various points they believe serve as evidence that Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan are involved in a romantic relationship.
According to their theory, during promotional activities, the two pretended not to know each other well. However, netizens noticed that various behind-the-scenes videos showed they had a strong understanding of one another.
Furthermore, they are convinced that Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan’s interactions off-screen give hints that they are secretly in a relationship. Recently, they surprised the public by posting photos on the same day while wearing matching outfits.
Additionally, Zhang Ruonan referred to Bai Jingting as “brother,” which further fueled rumors about their secret relationship.Generally, stars paired in Chinese dramas refer to their co-stars as “teacher” as a form of respect. Amidst these swirling theories, a trending topic on Weibo reminded netizens of previous rumors suggesting that Bai Jingting was involved with Song Yi.
The two were paired together in the drama Destined. At that time, similar rumors circulated, claiming that Bai Jingting was in a romantic relationship with Song Yi while filming that drama.
On March 12, Song Yi edited a photo of herself sitting on a green bench from 2023. Interestingly, it was noted that Zhang Ruonan had recently been photographed sitting on a green bench during Paris Fashion Week.
This photo was seen as a clue because Bai Jingting had previously posted a photo of himself sitting on a green bench in 2023. Following rumors of his involvement with Zhang Ruonan, Song Yi suddenly re-uploaded an old photo of herself on the green bench, which was viewed as her indirect way of debunking those rumors. This move angered fans of The First Frost, as they felt Song Yi was ruining their fantasy of the couple’s romance.
According to prior rumors, the photos of Bai Jingting and Song Yi sitting on the green bench were taken by each other during their vacation in November 2023. They were also reportedly spotted vacationing together in Paris and Singapore.
However, some other Chinese netizens defended Song Yi. They argued that she chose to “make a move” after rumors of a romance between Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan surfaced. Her actions were also taken after The First Frost had ended, so many viewed Song Yi’s actions as quite graceful, as they did not disrupt the drama’s airing.
Recently, Bai Jingting posted a photo of two pairs of shoes on Weibo and Instagram—one pair in yellow and the other in burgundy. Interestingly, netizens focused on the beige carpet beneath the shoes.
Someone then discovered photos of Song Yi’s home shared by the actress. In one of the photos, she also had a beige carpet and a glass coffee table. This led to speculation that Bai Jingting and Song Yi might be living together because of the photo posted by the actor, which briefly trended on Weibo last week.
Bai Jingting’s actions are considered an indirect statement that he is in a romantic relationship with Song Yi, while his relationship with Zhang Ruonan is seen as purely professional for the sake of The First Frost.
Of course, these theories are created by CP fans and netizens in China. Neither Bai Jingting, Zhang Ruonan, nor Song Yi has released any statements to confirm or deny the romantic relationships believed by netizens.
