The actor, who portrays a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine in the series, shared with the media that he attended classes on traditional medicine for a month to prepare for his role.
“It’s just the basics,” he remarked with a smile. “I learned a bit about acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, and pulse diagnosis, but I’m still hesitant to try acupuncture on myself.”
Known for his roles in period and fantasy dramas, Zhang explained that his decision to take on this series was motivated by its modern setting, as reported by Yahoo Life.
“I had been filming costume dramas in Hengdian for quite some time, and I was eager to try my hand at a modern drama. The script felt very fresh and healing to me, and the character of He Suye is also quite captivating,” he mentioned.
It appears that his month of study paid off, as actress Jolin Jin recently revealed that Zhang was able to discern her pregnancy while they were filming a variety show together.
The actress playfully asked Zhang to check her pulse after learning about his training in Chinese medicine. Unbeknownst to him that Jolin was pregnant and had kept it a secret, Zhang inquired if she was expecting.
“I asked him to feel my pulse just to see how skilled he was. I never anticipated that he would find out I was pregnant,” she stated.
