Zhao Lusi
In various shows and interviews reported by Sohu, Zhao Lusi openly discusses her family problems. She admits that her relationship with her parents feels distant and disconnected. Since childhood, she was raised by her grandparents and had to become independent by studying alone at the age of 16. Zhao Lusi rarely communicates with her parents, almost never reaching out to them. The lack of emotional support from her parents has made her feel neglected, leading her to describe their relationship as “not close” and “unfamiliar,” even until she fell ill.
Mao Xiaotong
Mao Xiaotong’s life story is equally dramatic. Born into unfortunate circumstances, her father even threw her into a trash can after her birth. After achieving fame, her father appeared on a television show to demand 50 million yuan in alimony.
When faced with betrayal from her boyfriend, Mao Xiaotong exhibited remarkable composure by packing her bags and calling the police. Her life seems like a script for a leading female character in Jinjiang novels. In the drama “Nothing But Thirty,” she portrays a strong character, almost playing herself, expressing the anger and struggles she has faced.
Zhang Ruonan
Zhang Ruonan also has a touching story. To support her brother’s education, she entered the entertainment industry. Behind her sweet smile in her Douyin videos lies a heavy burden as an older sister who has to play a motherly role. In the drama “Cry Me a Sad River,” she portrays a character who witnesses school violence.
Meanwhile, in her latest drama, “The First Frost,” she plays Wen Yifan, who is abandoned by her biological mother and becomes a victim of abuse by her uncle. Off-screen, she finds herself trapped in a moral dilemma between supporting her brother and seeking her own happiness. Each role she plays seems to reflect herself in a parallel world, illustrating the heavy responsibilities she bears.
These stories reveal another side of the lives of famous stars in China, often hidden behind fame and success. They are not just faces on the screen but individuals struggling with emotional issues and complex family dynamics.
