The drama is directed by Chen Zhoufei and written by Gu Man. “Shine on Me” is based on Gu Man’s novel titled “The Sun is Like Me.”
Gu Man’s novels have often been adapted into dramas. Some popular adaptations include “Boss & Me,” “Love O2O,” and “You Are My Glory.”
Rumors about this adaptation have been floating around for a few years. Initially, Yang Yang and Zhao Lusi were rumored to star after their success in “Who Rules the World.” Then, there were whispers that Li Xian and Tian Xiwei would take the lead roles.
The drama will air on Tencent Video and consists of 36 episodes. It seems like Gu Man has made some changes to the story for the drama version, so it’ll differ from the novel.
Synopsis of “Shine on Me”
Nie Xi Guang (Zhao Jinmai) has a crush on Zhuang Xu (Lai Weiming), a talented guy from business school, but things didn’t work out for her. After graduation, she joins a photovoltaic company that her family invested in, starting off as an ordinary employee.
She then meets the newly assigned deputy general manager, Lin Yu Sen (Song Weilong), who used to be a doctor but retired from the medical field after a car accident. He initially complicates things for Nie Xi Guang due to a misunderstanding, but thanks to her, he starts to let go of his past and heal from the pain of not being able to perform complex surgeries. He passionately pursues her, allowing Nie Xi Guang to experience warm and genuine love.
In an unexpected turn of events, Lin Yu Sen listens to his heart and returns to his medical career. Meanwhile, Nie Xi Guang finds her footing at work. With her mother’s help, she leads the company out of trouble and ultimately becomes an outstanding business manager. Zhuang Xu also reflects on his past, reconciles with his feelings, and starts his own journey in life.
