LayarHijau– Ahead of Lunar New Year’s Eve, Chinese social media platform Weibo launched a relay red packet campaign featuring a lineup of popular celebrities. From morning until late at night, stars took turns distributing cash giveaways to users according to a scheduled schedule, quickly pushing the topic onto the platform’s hot search list.
Among the most talked-about participants was Bai Lu, who distributed red packets worth 100,000 yuan. Based on a rough exchange rate of 1 yuan ≈ USD 0.14, the amount equals approximately USD 14,000.
Zhang Linghe handed out red packets seven times. However, since the giveaways were limited to fans only, the restriction sparked minor debate among netizens. The exact total amount he distributed was not publicly disclosed.
Although she did not join Weibo’s official relay event, Ju Jingyi created her own buzz. She independently distributed four red packets worth 49,999.99 yuan each. In total, that comes close to 200,000 yuan, or roughly USD 28,000. Her generosity quickly sent her name soaring on the hot search rankings. Like several others, however, her red packets were also restricted to fans.
The most anticipated name remains Chen Zheyuan, often nicknamed the “God of Fortune of the Internet” for his consistent large-scale giveaways in previous years. This year, he is expected to distribute 150,000 yuan, equivalent to about USD 21,000.
Based on the publicly disclosed figures — 100,000 yuan from Bai Lu, nearly 200,000 yuan from Ju Jingyi, and 150,000 yuan from Chen Zheyuan — the total already reaches around 450,000 yuan. Converted at the current rate, that amounts to approximately USD 63,000. The real figure could be even higher, as some celebrities did not reveal their exact totals.
With such substantial sums being handed out, it is no surprise that the relay red packet campaign has become one of the most talked-about topics on Chinese social media during the Lunar New Year celebrations.
