LayarHijau– The urban romance drama Love Between Lines (轧戏), starring Chen Xingxu and Lu Yuxiao, has now completed its broadcast. Since its premiere until the final episode, the drama has frequently become a topic of discussion, particularly for its romantic moments, including kissing scenes that many viewers considered relatively bold for an urban romance series. In an interview with Sohu Entertainment conducted during the airing period, Chen Xingxu shared his thoughts on those scenes and reflected on the creative process behind them.

Addressing the discussion surrounding the number of kissing scenes in the drama, Chen Xingxu said that he never kept track of how many there actually were. He even appeared surprised when the interviewer mentioned the possibility that the drama might contain around 27 kissing scenes.

“I don’t know the number either. I never counted,” Chen Xingxu said. He emphasized that the quantity of kissing scenes was never something he focused on while acting. “For me, everything has to be at just the right point. Scenes like that need to appear at the right moment,” he explained.

Among the romantic scenes, Chen Xingxu specifically mentioned the car window kiss, which has since aired and became one of the moments widely discussed by viewers. He revealed that the scene was originally written in a very simple manner in the script.

“There was nothing complicated written in the script. It was just described as the two of them parting and sharing a kiss, with no detailed description,” he said. However, during filming, the scene was further developed, resulting in a version that felt much stronger both visually and emotionally.

That development, Chen Xingxu noted, was closely tied to the director Mao De Shu’s creative input. Throughout the filming process, he often found himself impressed by Mao De Shu’s approach, especially when it came to romantic scenes.

“There were so many moments,” Chen Xingxu recalled. “Scenes under the cherry blossoms, whether it was the kiss beneath the blossoms or the bicycle scenes under the cherry trees, all made me feel that the visuals were extremely beautiful and truly different.” He also pointed out that Mao De Shu’s choice of camera angles and lenses felt distinct from what he usually experienced in drama productions.

Speaking about the car window kiss in particular, Chen Xingxu added that Mao De Shu contributed many ideas on set. “He said that romance is his specialty,” Chen Xingxu shared, adding that the director had a clear vision for how romantic emotions should be conveyed through imagery.

Beyond the discussion of kissing scenes, Chen Xingxu also spoke about his broader approach to acting. He said that he pays close attention to his working rhythm and does not want to force himself into projects without careful consideration.

“Filming is a process of draining yourself,” he said. Because of that, he hopes to have periods of quiet time to absorb life experiences and new perspectives before pouring them back into his next role. He also admitted that he does not always feel completely free or at ease while working, which is why he prefers to be selective when choosing scripts.

This mindset made his collaboration with Mao De Shu on Love Between Lines feel particularly aligned. On one hand, Mao De Shu is known for his strong romantic visual style, while on the other, Chen Xingxu prioritizes emotional accuracy and timing in performance.

With all episodes now aired, Love Between Lines can be viewed as more than just an urban romance drama. It presents love through atmosphere, visual language, and carefully placed emotional moments—elements that, according to Chen Xingxu, only work when timing, emotion, and imagery meet at the right point.
