In The Prisoner of Beauty, He Hongshan plays Da Qiao, the elder sister of the female lead. Her character falls in love with a lowly stable hand named Bi Zhi, embarking on a cross-class romance filled with challenges — including a romantic kissing scene.
Interestingly, as reported by ET Today, He Hongshan has long struggled with a rare medical condition: a saliva allergy. She once revealed during the filming of The Glory that even minimal contact with saliva could cause her skin to break out in red rashes.
Because of this allergy, He Hongshan has avoided kissing scenes in most of her past dramas. In fact, many of the roles she accepted were antagonistic characters, since villains typically don’t require romantic storylines.
This limitation somewhat restricted her career path. However, in The Prisoner of Beauty, viewers were both surprised and delighted to see He Hongshan not only taking on emotionally rich scenes but also bravely performing a light kissing scene — a move considered a personal breakthrough.
