Liu Yifei’s gesture drew attention as a sign of support for Li Xian, who previously co-starred with her in the 2023 drama Meet Yourself. Not long after, Li Xian responded warmly in the comments, writing: “Thank you, Hongdou! I’ll treat you to grilled chicken when you’re free.” Hongdou refers to the character Liu Yifei played in Meet Yourself.
Their interaction was met with positive responses from many Chinese netizens, who were glad to see the two remain on good terms after working together. However, as expected, some users raised questions. A few pointed out that Li Xian only followed Liu Yifei’s Weibo account after she helped promote his drama. Others questioned why Li Xian hadn’t shown the same level of support when Liu Yifei’s drama The Tale of Rose was airing.
Meet Yourself itself was one of the most successful Chinese dramas of 2023. The series received a high rating of 8.7 on Douban, making it the third-highest-rated Chinese drama on the platform that year—surpassing many other popular titles. Not only critically acclaimed, the drama also resonated with audiences through its simple yet heartfelt storytelling.
The success of Meet Yourself extended beyond ratings, significantly boosting tourism in China. Its filming location in Dali, Yunnan Province, became a new hotspot for visitors. During the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday, Yunnan recorded the highest tourism revenue in the country, reaching 38.4 billion yuan. Local authorities acknowledged that the drama played a major role in promoting the region’s lifestyle and cultural charm.
Meet Yourself also gained international recognition. At the 18th Seoul International Drama Awards, it won Best Series in the international competition category. Despite facing accusations of similarity to the Korean drama Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, the award was still presented—signifying recognition of the show’s production quality and storytelling. This achievement reaffirmed Meet Yourself as a drama that succeeded not only domestically but also made an impact on the global stage.
