Actor Zhang Linghe, known for The Princess Royal, and Tian Xiwei, who recently appeared in In Between, are strong candidates to play the male and female leads. Many netizens believe they are perfect for the roles and hope to see them act together.
A Challenging Adaptation
The original novel Hidden Love is hugely popular in China, but when Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan were announced as the leads, they faced significant public criticism. The production team even lacked a styling team, and the director temporarily left the project. In this tough situation, Zhao Lusi took the initiative to style herself using her personal clothes and helped her co-stars secure sponsorships from various brands. After the drama aired, her character’s feminine and easily replicable fashion became a trend, with many items selling out online.
Impressive Acting Skills
Both Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan have wowed audiences with their acting skills. Zhao Lusi delivered a natural performance as Sang Zhi, impressing viewers with her portrayal of a soft and sweet girl.
Not only did she showcase her acting talent, but she also styled her character, which earned her admiration from netizens. Meanwhile, Chen Zheyuan’s character, Duan Jia Xu, is a high-achieving student with a complex life, creating an image of warmth and kindness. He has solidified his position as a campus heartthrob, earning the title of Most Chosen Student.

Upmedia reported that the novel Hidden Love will be adapted into a film. Many netizens hope Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan will reprise their roles. However, they also acknowledge that this is unlikely, leading to discussions about other candidates for the film. Some netizens believe Zhang Linghe would be a great fit for Duan Jia Xu, especially after his rising popularity from The Princess Royal.
On the other hand, when Zhao Lusi was announced as Sang Zhi, many novel fans were skeptical and hoped Tian Xiwei would play the character instead. In the latest announcement regarding the film’s shooting, many are hoping Tian Xiwei will be cast, as she fits the character description in the novel—natural fair skin, pink lips, and bright round eyes.
Hidden Love has not only triumphed on screen but has also sparked a trend among fans. With the film adaptation in the works, fans are excited to see how the story will unfold and who will be chosen to portray these iconic characters.
