The atmosphere grew even more relaxed when Huang Xiaoming shared a lighthearted behind-the-scenes story. He revealed that all cast members were wearing T-shirts printed with the drama’s title. However, one stroke of a character on his own shirt had fallen off. Acting on a sudden impulse, Zhao Liying tore off the remaining part of the character, leaving a phrase that could be read as “big matters,” which everyone took as a good omen. The moment drew laughter and applause from the audience.
Huang Xiaoming later invited Zhao Liying to dance on stage. Their contrasting personalities were clearly visible, with Huang Xiaoming being expressive and energetic, while Zhao Liying appeared calmer and more reserved. The contrast added to the fun and brought a warm, cheerful mood to the event.
During the interview session, Zhao Liying spoke about her understanding of Li Qiuping, the character she plays. She said that Li Qiuping’s spirit had influenced her own outlook when facing challenges. According to Zhao Liying, the character’s journey is filled with hardship, as if overcoming one major obstacle after another.
Huang Xiaoming, meanwhile, described his character Zheng Decheng as having certain similarities to himself. Jokingly, he said the character is “a little smart, but not that much.” At the same time, he emphasized their differences, particularly in work style. For this role, Huang Xiaoming designed many details, such as walking at a fast pace, being decisive and efficient at work, acting quickly, and showing strong determination. Beneath that exterior, however, Zheng Decheng also has a vulnerable side that he keeps hidden.
Synopsis, Broadcast Information, and Episode Count
The drama tells the story of the development of a new town called Yuehai Town in Pingchuan County in the early 1980s. Li Qiuping and Zheng Decheng are two officials with different personalities and abilities who uphold the principle that cities should be built by the people. Taking advantage of China’s early reform and opening-up policies, they seek a development path that does not rely on state funding, instead mobilizing collective fundraising and community cooperation. Amid various pressures and conflicts, they lead thousands of residents in building a modern city from the ground up.
The Dream Maker premiered on January 10, 2026. The series consists of 40 episodes and airs on CCTV, with online streaming available on Tencent Video and WeTV.
