LayarHijau – Song Weilong has addressed the public response to his role in the drama Shine On Me. In a recent interview on Sohu Video’s program Star Colleague, the Chinese actor spoke directly about the label “king of modern romance dramas” that has recently been attached to him.
Instead of embracing the praise, Song Weilong admitted that the title makes him feel pressured. He emphasized that he does not want to be associated with labels that are too grand. “I feel pressured. Please don’t call me that,” he said. He also repeatedly stated that he does not think he deserves excessive praise and prefers to remain modest.
During the interview, Song Weilong also discussed the character Lin Yusen, whom he portrays in the drama. According to him, Lin Yusen is someone who understands the harshness of life but does not lose empathy for others. He feels that this aspect of the character is somewhat similar to himself. “I also have a warm side,” he said. However, he admitted that Lin Yusen is far better at expressing emotions than he is in real life.
Song Weilong shared his perspective on romance in modern dramas, stating that love stories should not focus solely on one-sided devotion from the male lead. “What I want to see is both people moving toward each other. The story itself has to be engaging,” he explained, highlighting the importance of balanced relationships between the two main characters.
One of the most talked-about scenes among viewers was the moment when Lin Yusen breaks down in tears after seeing Xigua injured. The scene went viral and was praised for its emotional impact. However, Song Weilong clarified that the moment was not carefully planned. “I didn’t decide beforehand whether I had to cry or not. I just acted based on what I felt at that moment,” he said. He also dismissed the idea that he deliberately builds a fragile image on screen, adding that he has never felt completely “broken” as some viewers assume.
Regarding his collaboration with Zhao Jinmai, Song Weilong revealed that the filming process took place in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. He described Zhao Jinmai as a co-star who is easy to work with and capable of creating a natural working environment on set. According to him, the chemistry between Lin Yusen and Xigua developed organically without being forced.
Song Weilong also mentioned their lighthearted interactions off camera, including their habit of taking photos on set. He admitted that he often took photos of Zhao Jinmai and felt fairly confident about his results. “I think my photos turn out pretty well,” he said. He even insisted that some of the photos he took should not be deleted because he found those moments fun and interesting.
He added that if he were not an actor, he would seriously consider pursuing photography, particularly nature and wildlife photography. He said this interest also helps him unwind amid his busy filming schedule.
Through this interview, Song Weilong showed a cautious attitude toward fame. Despite being praised as an icon of modern romance dramas and receiving positive responses for his chemistry with Zhao Jinmai, he prefers to distance himself from excessive glorification and hopes to be evaluated through his characters, the story, and the work process itself.
