LayarHijau — Liu Yuning revealed during a livestream on Tuesday, December 2, that he misses acting and hopes to return to filming soon. “I really miss being on set. I really want to act again,” he said.
However, due to his packed schedule for year-end galas, he has not yet joined a new drama project and will continue focusing on his work as a singer for the time being. He also shared that his decision to hold a concert was inspired by watching Mao Buyi’s performance. “I felt that doing it would make me happy, so I just went for it,” Liu Yuning explained.
His remarks came as new rumors surfaced that he may be paired with Bai Lu in an upcoming drama. The speculation began spreading on Weibo in late November 2025. In October, Bai Lu wrapped filming for the costume series Mo Li with Cheng Lei. Reports claim her next drama will be Just in Time for the Continuous Rain, a new historical romance directed by Li Muge, known for Goodbye My Princess and Rattan. The production team initially planned to reunite Bai Lu with Zhang Linghe, but rumors suggest both sides declined the offer.
Bai Lu is reportedly still set to lead the series, and the production is said to have turned to Liu Yuning—who has risen in popularity this year through The Prisoner of Beauty and A Dream Within A Dream—to take on the male lead role.
Just in Time for the Continuous Rain is adapted from the novel of the same name by Shen Xiao Zhi. The story follows Su Jin, a young orphan of the Xie family, who disguises herself as a man to investigate the injustice that destroyed her family. After becoming an official, she searches for her missing friend Chao Qing and finds herself confronting a powerful faction led by the Seventh Prince. Along the way, she forms alliances and clashes with key figures such as the steadfast censor Liu Chaoming and Prince Zhu Nanxian, diving into political intrigue, solving mysterious cases, and fighting corruption within the imperial court. Liu Chaoming is portrayed as her guiding light, while Zhu Nanxian is destined to become her true love. Current rumors claim that Liu Yuning may play Zhu Nanxian, Bai Lu’s official love interest in the series.
Online discussions intensified since Weibo users noticed Bai Lu and Liu Yuning appearing together on stage at the Weibo Vision Conference 2025, where they accepted the Role Model Actor of the Year award. Many Weibo users praised the production team for making a sharp casting choice.
So far, neither the drama’s production team nor the two stars have responded to the casting rumors.
