LayarHijau – On November 15, the 38th China Golden Rooster Awards ceremony was held, and the official list of winners was announced. Song Jia took home the Best Actress award for her role as Wang Tiemei in the film Her Story (好东西). Previously, in 2013, Song Jia also won the same award for her performance in Xiao Hong (萧红).
When accepting the award on stage, Song Jia delivered a heartfelt speech:

“Thank you to the China Golden Rooster Awards, thank you to all the jury members, and thank you to my director Shao Yihui for allowing me to become her Tiemei. I accept this award on behalf of the entire cast, because we always perform as one ensemble, not a solo act. Thank you for your support and for giving me this opportunity—without you, I would not be here. This award belongs to all of us. Since my first nomination for the Golden Rooster in 2006 until today, I am grateful for every role and every collaboration with my colleagues, as you have shaped who I am. Thank you also to the audience for coming to the cinema and joining us. Receiving this award during the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema fills me with gratitude.”
Her Story follows Wang Tiemei, a single mother striving to balance her career and family responsibilities while confronting gender stereotypes in modern society. Through Tiemei, Song Jia portrays a strong and independent woman who is also vulnerable, capturing the complexity of real-life female experiences. The film emphasizes the importance of female solidarity, friendship, and social support as essential elements in overcoming life’s challenges.
Beyond entertainment, Her Story delivers a subtle social critique on women’s roles within the household and society. Tiemei’s struggles, including often-invisible domestic work, reflect the real-life issue of “invisible labor” faced by many women. This makes the film more than just a drama; it stands as a representation of female empowerment and a socially relevant narrative for contemporary audiences.
In addition to Song Jia’s win, Her Story also received the Best Picture award at the 38th Golden Rooster Awards. Zhong Chuxi, who plays Xiao Ye, one of the key characters in the film, also won Best Supporting Actress, highlighting the overall strength of the cast and the film’s compelling female-centered narrative.
