LayarHijau – At the Weibo Vision Conference 2025 held on November 3 in Beijing, producer Liu Wenyang officially announced that Guardians of the Dafeng (大奉打更人) will return for a second season. Ending the announcement with confidence, he declared, “See you in Season 2!” The drama’s official Weibo account also posted the news with the caption: “Dafeng’s soldiers, we’ll be with you till the end!”
The announcement reached another level of excitement when lead actor Dylan Wang responded from the audience with the drama’s iconic “chest gong” gesture, immediately igniting the crowd and sparking a wave of anticipation across social media.

Such a grand reveal underscores the series’ special status. The last time a similarly spectacular announcement happened was for Hu Ge’s drama Blossoms Shanghai, highlighting that Dylan Wang, a post-95 generation actor, now commands a unique presence in the industry.
Initially, some thought Guardians of the Dafeng might lose momentum in the latter half of Season 1 and fail to match the popularity of Joy of Life. In reality, the series topped all costume drama ratings this year, explaining the green light for a second season.
Season 1 Achievements
Season 1 captivated audiences from the start. Within 18 days of its premiere, it ranked first in daily views across platforms according to KoCloud data and held the on-demand daily view crown for 17 consecutive days. The average episode garnered 58.48 million views (Yunhe V30 data), total ad time reached 4,311 seconds, and it partnered with 282 brands, breaking platform records. International distribution rights also set industry records, and the series was recognized by Yuewen Group—a major Chinese media and publishing company that holds rights to the original novel—as a “phenomenal hit.”
Even though Season 1 concluded earlier this year, the series remained in Tencent Video’s top 6 popularity rankings for ten months and maintained the highest annual market share, according to Yunhe data. This performance earned it the “Most Influential Work of 2025” award at the Weibo Vision Conference, highlighting its long-lasting impact.
A Genre-Bending Hit
Guardians of the Dafeng skillfully blends mystery, humor, political intrigue, and fantasy. Season 1 adapted the first two volumes of the novel by Mai Bao Xiao Lang Jun, leaving plenty of material for the second season.
Season 1 ended with several mysteries: Xu Qi’an seemingly vanished due to the effects of the Tianji technique, the possible revival of Wei Yuan, Jianzheng’s ambiguous stance, and the uncertain fate of parts of the kingdom. These cliffhangers have fans eagerly speculating about what’s next.
Additionally, key scenes involving State Master Luo Yuheng and Flower Goddess Mu Nanzhi, which were cut due to censorship, are expected to appear in Season 2. In the original novel, Luo Yuheng plays a pivotal role, is close friends with Mu Nanzhi, and later becomes Xu Qi’an’s partner, playing a critical role in the climactic battle against the emperor.
High Ambitions for Season 2
The production team confirmed that development for the second season will proceed “ahead of schedule with top quality.” They plan to delve into standout elements from the novel, including “dual cultivation for leveling up” and “scientific approaches to metaphysics.” Action sequences and political intrigue will continue to deliver the visual spectacle established in Season 1.
Dylan Wang is again highlighted as the “perfect choice for Xu Qi’an,” with his natural charisma closely matching the character. Fans also demand that main cast members Tian Xiwei, Liu Yijun, and Mao Xiaohui as Princess Huaiqing return, with Mao Xiaohui’s casting described as “benchmark for male-centric series supporting cast.”
With the Season 2 announcement, fan discussions about upcoming storylines are already buzzing. Dylan Wang continues to cement his position as one of the few post-95 actors capable of leading a major drama series, making him a standout talent for future projects.
