LayarHijau – The sudden passing of actor Yu Menglong on September 11, 2025, has sent shockwaves through China’s entertainment industry. The Destiny of White Snake (天乩之白蛇传说) star was reportedly found after a fall from his apartment building in Beijing. Police described the incident as an “accident after drinking alcohol,” but many online felt that the conclusion—reached within just 12 hours—came far too quickly.
Following the tragedy, attention has turned to Yu’s management company, Tianyu Media (EE-Media). Online users have noted that several other artists from the same agency have experienced similar incidents in recent years—each of them young, promising, and at the height of their careers.
A String of Tragic Incidents
The first reported case dates back to 2015, when actor Bian Ce was said to have passed away after a fall from a building in Tianjin. He was regarded as one of television’s rising young talents.
A year later, on Christmas Eve 2016, singer Ben Xi—known for her hit song Don’t Be Silly (别闹)—was also reported to have passed away after a similar accident at her residence. Just three days earlier, she had gone live online to promote her new music, making the news of her loss all the more shocking.
That same year, singer-actor Qiao Renliang, who starred in Cruel Romance (锦绣缘·华丽冒险), was found at his home in Shanghai. Authorities attributed the cause to mental health struggles, though fans noted the intense work pressure he had faced at the time.
In 2017, actress Ren Jiao was reported to have fallen from a high floor of a hotel in Suzhou. Her case raised questions after initial reports failed to include full details of the incident.
With Yu Menglong’s passing in 2025, the number of Tianyu Media artists who have reportedly lost their lives in similar ways has reached five—all under circumstances that remain unclear to the public.
Other Unusual Losses Linked to the Same Agency
Several other performers from Tianyu Media were also reported to have passed away in different but equally unsettling ways.
Singer Tan Beixi lost her life in 2006 in what was described as an “unusual car accident,” while Shang Yubo in 2011 was reported to have fallen from his apartment in another apparent tragedy.
In 2020, young singer Cai Chong was also reported to have died unexpectedly.
Another case involved actress Lu Jiayong, best known for her role in Dear Marriage (亲爱的婚姻). She went missing in 2019 after posting online about the intense stress she felt within the entertainment industry. No official updates about her whereabouts have been issued since.
Public Reaction and Speculation
The repeated tragedies have sparked concern about the mental health and working conditions of young artists in China’s entertainment world, especially those managed by large agencies. On Weibo, many netizens have suggested that burnout, stress, and isolation may have played a role in these incidents.
Others questioned why each case seemed to be closed so quickly, often without detailed reports being made public. While some believe this is to protect the families’ privacy, others find the recurring pattern over nearly two decades difficult to dismiss.
So far, Tianyu Media has not released any official statement regarding the string of incidents. Meanwhile, fans continue to light digital candles on Weibo, remembering the artists who left too soon.
