LayarHijau – Zhang Linghe has become a household name thanks to his roles in hit dramas such as Love Between Fairy and Devil, My Journey to You, Story of Kunning Palace, and The Princess Royal. Earlier this year, he drew attention again with The Best Thing. However, his latest project with Zhao Jinmai, Our Generation, failed to attract audiences. Now, Zhang is attempting a comeback through the Republican-era drama Overdo (这一秒过火), where he stars opposite Wang Churan, the breakout actress of Story of Kunning Palace and Joy of Life.
Adapted from Fei Wo Si Cun’s novel If I Hadn’t Met You in This Second, the drama unveiled a one-minute teaser today. Despite its brevity, the clip quickly captured attention with its emotionally charged and conflict-driven scenes. Four highlights stand out: a passionate embrace and kiss between Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan, the heroine sacrificing herself by taking a bullet for him, and their heartbreaking separation amid raging flames.
Love grows wildly in the ashes, unspoken truths burn quietly in the dark.

The teaser also revealed more complicated layers of conflict: Wang Churan’s character is forced to marry Zhang Linghe’s brother (played by Fu Xinbo), yet remains tied to her old flame. One of the most discussed moments shows Zhang Linghe kissing Wang Churan on her wedding day, only to be slapped hard in return. Other intense scenes include Zhang pointing a gun at her with a dark expression and even strangling her with a measuring tape. These moments have led netizens to call the series a full package of “dog blood” melodrama, brimming with extreme emotional conflict.
The story begins in 1920s Shanghai. Ren Susu (Wang Churan), an orphan, saves the life of Murong Qingfeng (Zhang Linghe), a poor young man whose presence ultimately brings her misfortune. Eight years later, Susu approaches Qingfeng to investigate her parents’ death, only to discover that he is innocent. She fakes her death and disappears. Three years later, she returns under a new identity as the daughter of a wealthy businessman from Southeast Asia. Their romance rekindles, but secrets from the past force them into heartbreaking confrontations.
Although the series is still in production, anticipation is already running high. Related topics on Douyin have surpassed 50 million views. Visually, the teaser juxtaposes romantic moments such as a kiss under falling snow and loving gazes amid cascading flower petals with tragic scenes of Wang Churan being shot and falling from a train, or the two screaming for each other as flames tear them apart.
No official release date has been announced, but with Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan both at the height of their popularity, Overdo is predicted to become one of the most anticipated dramas of the year.
